The undersigned, members of the committee, do rwpectfully report, that we saw the two Safes origi nal ly agreed upon by Farrel A Herring, and Evans A Watson, placed side by side in a furnace, viz: The Safe is use by the Paymaster of the Philadel phia and Resell's Railroad Company, in his office at Reading. manufactured by Ferrets & Herring, and the Safe in use by H. A. Lantz, is his store. manu factured by Evans & Watson, and put in hooks pre cisely alike. The fire was started at o'clock A. M., and kept up until four cords of green hickory, two cords dry oak awl half chestnut top wood were entirely con sumed, the whole under the superinteudence of the eubseribers, members of the committee. The Safes were (ben cooled oil with water, after which they were opened, and the Looks and papers taken out by the committee and sent to H. A. Lantz's store for public eXeefilleliell, after theywere first examined and marked by the Committee. The books and pa pers taken front the Safe manufactured by Evans and Watson were but slightly affected by the intense heat while those taken from the Safe manufactured by Ferrets sad Herring were iu our judgment dam aged fully fifteen per cent. more than those taken from Evans & Watson's Safe. We believe the above to have been a fair and im partial trial of the respective qualities of both safes. JACOB H. DYSH ER, DANIEL S.
