The loss by this fire is estimated at one

reach its full value, $125,000, the insu

ing amendment to the Constitution; “The

on a large scale in Paris by placing in

To Cure a Sore Throat.—Take the
whites of two eggs and beat them with
two spoonsfnls of white sugar, grate in a
little nutmeg, and then add a pint of
luke-wurm water. . Stir well and drink
often. Repeat the prescription if neces
sary, and it will cure the most obstinate
case of boarsenpss in a short time.

Tax on Building Associations.—

decided that building associations loaning
money on real estate are liable to a special
tux as bankeis, as per section 70, para
graph 1, of aet of June JO, ISG4, which
says: "Every person, linn or company
having a place of business where money
is loaned or advanced upon bonds, slocks,
bullion, bills of exchange, or promissory
notes, is regarded as a banker.” This
comprehends the loaning of money on
real estate. As bankers, building associ
ations should also make a return each
month of the amount of capital used, for
the the tax of one-half of one-quarter per
cent., as provided in section 110, act of
June 30,1608.
