AMEBIC iN VOLUNTEER. JOBS B. BhITTOS, .Editor k Proprietor. - CARLISLE. PA.. OCTOBER 23, 1802. O V FI FLA “ Forever float that standard sheet! Where breathes the foe but fallsbefore ust With Freedom’s soil beneath our feet. And Freedom’s banner waving o'er us! THE RFSDLT IS THIS CiHJ.\TY. Cnprttedtnlcd Democratic majority I In another column will bo found the offi cial returns for this county. It will- bo seen that we elect uur entire County Ticket by an average fnnjority of 860 I This is a glorious, old-fashioned Democnitic majority. Had it not been for the fact that about three to one of the voters in the, army from this county are Democrats, our majority would- have reached 1500. No doubt of this, whatever. •In pointing to this glorious result, we are glad to be able to say that scores of men who ■ voted for Lincoln and Curtin, but who are not Abolitionists, contributed to our siiceess. Men who all their lives have.voted clean tick ets against the Democratio party, this year euppoted the whole'Deraporatic ticket. - They have ceased to fight Democracy, and hereaf ter they will ho with ns to a man. They had ■ been-deceived by the lies of their leaders and their papers, and they have resented the de . oeption practiced upon thorn as far as they could. They now sec that the Democrats told the truth when they assured the people that the success of a sectional Abolition par ty would bring on war, desolation, enondous taxes, arm brother against brother, father against eon, and cousin against cousin. They now, see that the Democrats predicted rightly when they told the people that the Adminis tration would attempt to make this war a ccn test for the emancipation of four millions of claves, who are to be turned loose upon the North, to murder, steal and plunder - Yes, * «ensiblo men who are not blinded by nlgger jsm on the.brain, see these things, and they have .assisted to strike the blow that killed Abolitionism in Pennsylvania. bid them welcome to our rankai for we know they de sire, with us, the perpetuity of the Union, and the punishment of those. Abolition ras- • ' cals who, with-Southern rebels, are plotting its destruction. Look at the above, and sec if wo miscalculated very much. Substitutes.— Quito a number of those drafted for military service in this county have procured substitutes. Our town was mado lively for the last two or'three days, by arrival of the drafted, accompanied by those who are to take their planes in the ranks. Most of tliesubstitutes wore procured for $2OO and $3OO, but wo heard of several who had received ns high as $5OO and $OOO, and one that wo board of got $BOO, - About the same jujoiutt. —When Jack son ran against J. Q. Adams, Cumberland county gave Jackson over 1000 majority.— That’s a long time ago, and no man from that day to the 14th inst. has received so large a majority, But now we have it again. Our •neighbor. Squire Smith, defeats our amiable friend, Rheem, by o majority of 1015 for the office of Coroner! Rueem and J. Q. Considering the extraordinary efforts made by the Abolitionists to carry Pennsylvania, the vast amount of money expended, and the co ercive means resorted to, wo may well be proud of the triumph achieved, although the majority is not as large ns that given by our Democratio brethren of the Buckeye and {Rosier States. We have beaten the enemy in what ho considered his stronghold, where he anticipated a crushing majority, and there fore we have a right tu rejoice. 'WILL LINCOLN RESIGN ! , Now that the people have spoken through the ballot-box, and have declared, iu tones.of thunder, their want of confidence in Abra ham LiNcoi.Nj.ho should at once resign and, retire to private life. He should bo glad to b e permitted to do so, for more than one, tyrant has lost his bend for crimes a-gains'this coun try not half as aggravated as those committed by this miserable man, Lincoln,. Let him resign anil go home, and thank his God Mint h worse fate did not overtake him. He lms been most signally rebuked by .the loyal peo ple of the loyal North. They have, in, the fane of h s threats and persecutions, dashed their clenched fists in his very eyes, and branded him and his truckling, thieving rot ton administration with the seal of their con demnation. “ Come onl of that chair, Abra ham Lincoln," is the demand the people .of this State made on Tuesday of last week. The people of Ohio, Indiana Delaware and New Jersey have re-echoed the sentiment. Will the President obey this voice, or will ho continue to. outrage the people and the coun try by holding on to his offing? We shall see. 9746 7249 The defeat of the notorious Gaow for Con gress, in the Luzerne and .Susquehanna, dis trict, is a result over which every patriot will rejoice. Grow was Speaker of the last House, and was a bitter unscrupulous Abolitionist, aid was AVilviot’s right hand man. Two years ago ho was elected to Congress by 2300 majority Dennison, Democrat, now de feats him by 2884 ! Truly, the people are get ting their eyes open to the infamy of Aboli tionism. The dqloat of M’Piierson, in the 10th Dis trict, is another glorious Democratic victory. Mr. Coffrotu, a truly loyal man and good Democrat, will take the place of M’Piierson inCongress. Glorious, ain’t it? Gen. AV. 11. Miller, of Harrisburg, a most excellent man and hard-working Democrat, is eletted to Congress in the Dauphin district, boating Joun J. Patterson, Abolitionist, by some 500 majority. This is a must astonish-, ir.g result, and proves that the people are thinking. Gon. Miller deserves great credit for the energetic manner in which be,con ducted the canvass. Copperheads About !—During the late political contest in this State, the Abolition papers exhausted their billingsgate vocabu lary in Search of epithets to apply to the Dem ocratic party and its candidates. Among other nice names, they called us “ copper heads.” Well, judging by the returns, our State is olive with copperheads; on the day of the election they were in the towns, val leys, and mountain tops, and many san guine, thieving, impudent negro worshippers were stung to death. Grow, McPherson, Patterson, and other Republican candidate! for Congress, felt the poison of the copper heads, and expired without a struggle.
