To Bridge Builders. THE Commissioners of York and Cumberland counties) will let, to tho lowest proposals, on the 17th day of August,' Jl. D. 1859, at tho house of Benjamin Clay, at Bridgeport, the con tracting for buildipg a Wooden Bridge ovei; Yellow Breeches creek, at Coove'r’s mill, in York and Cumberland counties. The.bridge to, bo of tho following dimensions, viz: To contain ia length 100 tcet in tho clear, from one abut ment to other, and 16 feet wide in the qloar, With two, abutments each 12 feet thick at the bottom, with a battering wall of ono inch to the foot on tho three sides of each abutment j the abutment to be 16 loot high from the bottom of itho crook to- tho cord line, from which tho wooden arches are to bo started and extend across said creek from one abutment to tho oth er; and to bo single floored with S inch white oak plank, and raised in-tho centre 12 inches ; the sides and gable ends of said bridge to bo of sufficient heighth to admit covered or hay wa gons to pass through the same. Tho bridge is to be closely weatherboarded with half inch pine boards, well lapped. The whole of the work of ■aid bridge to bo roofed with good and sufficient pine shingles; said roofing to extend at each end 10 feet over the heel of the arch or top of the abutments, and on each side of the bridge over tho weatherboarding 2 feet. The abut ments are to be built on,firm foundations, to be approved of by the Commissioners, the. whole of the mason work to be well built of largo and hard stone, lime and mortar, and pointed from the back of the abutment. The filling shall consist of earth and stone, and to be supported with wing wails on each side 5 feet thick at tho two abutments, with a battering pf 1 inch to tho foot to the top of the filling, and to extend in that manner on the two extreme sides of the bridge, until the filling and walling shall meet the roads, with an ascent not exceeding an an gle of 4 degrees elevation from the road to the ■ bri'dge. with curtain walls sufficient, length and thickness, and covered with broad stones well secured. The wood work on the out and inside of the bridge is to be whitewashed with two coats of lime. The two abutments each to bo 15 feet thick at the bottom, with a battering wall of I.inch to the foot on three aides of each abutment, The bridge to be built with three arches ; the centre arch to be 31 feet long and 10 feet 4 inches high in the clear; the two outer arches to be each 28 feet 6 inches long and 9 ftet 6 Inches high in the clear. The abutments Between the arches are to be 6 feet thick, and to rise 8 inches above low water-mark, before the arches start. The side or curtain walls are to be 3 feet high above the filling and to extend as far as the wing walls, and to be covered with broad stone coping, clamped.. The wing walls on-eaoh side to be five feet thick at the abut ments; with a battering of 1 inch to the foot to the top of the filling, and to extend as far as may be necessary to support the filling or em bankriiont. The masonry Is all to be pointed. The fllling to consist of earth and stone, and to be one foot thick on the crown of the centre arch, and the grade not to exceed 4 degrees un til it,meets the bed of the road.
