Graham,President Judge, and his associates the tollowingprocced ings Were had, to wit .: , . , The undersigned Committee appointed by the' Court, to visit, examine into, and report upon tho mode.of management and present condition of tho Poor House of this county, beg leave to state, that in tho discharge of the ditties assign, ed them, they have visited the institution'at dif ferent tiines during tho year. There Were in the Poor House on tho Ist day of January; 1857, 90, of which 12 were colored. There has boon admitted since then 221, including 6 born in tho house, making tho whole number provid ed tor during the year, 311; 22 out door paup ers; of those 7 have died, two bound out, 9 eloped and 185 discharged, leaving the number in the bouse on the Ist of January, 1858,includ ing 22 out door patipers 131. In addition to the above 775 transient paupers have been ad mitted and their Wants supplied. We are happy to say that in all instances we round everything in good' order, all tho apart ments present a clean and healthy appearance, their clothing is abundant,and theirdiot abund ant and nutritous, and all who aro sick receive the faithful attentions of the regular physician. Labor is provided for all who are able to work. Tho children have jn-oper care and attention be stowed upon them, and when of sufficient years are put out do service with suitable' persons; Upon the whole your committee are fully satis fied that the institution has been well managed for the year just closed! Wo notice in the re port of tho Committee of 1856, the opinion ex pressed that there should bo a hospital separate from the main building. After a consultation with tho steward and tho attending physician and seeing the comparative comfortable condi tion of tho inmates of the institution, your pre sent committee are of opinion that tor the pres ent such a building can bo dispensed with.
