A Lady Shoolbr* &-vary startling scent* took place in a ball room at &ioy's tavern, l*oa Cove, Oldtown, Me., a few days luaoo. One William Bowman, of Upper Stillwater, Was very pleasantly dancing, when a young woman rose fromhor seat and, without a promonilary word, discharged a double barrelled pistol at him. Ono barrel look effect in the book portion of his right shoulder, which rendered him the most intense auf- Toror. The affair created (ho most intense excite ment. The woman justifies her conduct by charg ing him with seduction, under promise of marriage, which ho refuses to make good, now that a critical ora is approaching. She valoroualy tegrola that the ball did not pierce his heart, instead rff so bony a substance as his shoulder. So strongly is public sympathy on (ho injured woman's side, (hat no al tempt has been made to arrest her—nor is it sup posed there will bo. Arrest and Discharge of the Shooting Lady.— The young whosbol Bowman in tho mazy dance at Pea Cove, was yesterday arrested on his complaint and carried before Justice Aldford, at Oldtown. At tho hoar appointed for (bo investigation, tho com plainant and tho accused confronted each other, bat no witness appeared. Tho justice thereupon dis charged her. She said sho intended to shoot com plainant; had found by her demonstration that tho people were on her side, and sho thought sho should lot him run —said ho deserved death for his treat ment of her. Sho is but sixteen years old, and has an eye denoting great firmness of purpose. It is said that Bowman at the time bo was shot bad a pistol upon his person, which it is supposed ho in tended to defend himself with, she having threatened him. The wound received will lame him for life, il is thought. Soma wag says that her discharge will prove a dangerous precedent, which, if acted upon, Oldtown and Upper Stillwater may become lutod.— Bangor Mercury, March 4. -The Journeymen Cabpenteus of Reading, who have been holding meetings for the last two or three weeks to discuss ihe propriety of demanding an advance in (heir wages, had a turnout in the forepart of the week. They marched round town, accompanied with music, and turned out pretty full ranks. The movement is a general one, par ticipated in, we believe, by all iho Journeymen Carpenters in the city. Their employers have consented to their demands. SW a f c t a n; c .o. On Ilio the 17 1 1* inal., by llev. Dr. DuVViti.
