This circus has the largest elephant on exhibition in America, and also the smallest of the ele phantine tribe, besides many other rare specimens from the animals of Europe and Asia. See adv, DEATH OP HON. - SEX MCCIALitr.— Our Community was greatly shocked on Fri- day morning last by the announcement of the death of Hon. Moses Moplean. Few knew ofbis illness , and hence \the shock was all the greater. Indeed,Vle Wed nesday, he was. moving about apparently in ordinary health. Wednesday afternoon he complained ofmot feeling well and eon sulted'his family physician, who prescrits ed for liim. Thursday morning lie took' his bed, and by evening the disease had made such rapid progress, that his physi cians abandoned all hope. He sank nariid ly and on Friday morning breathed his last, pcacefully and quietly, after a touch ing interview with the itnernbers of his family. For several yerfrs Mr. McClean had complained of failing health, and dur ing the summer had made one or two brief trips of relaxation; but no one dreamed his end was so near at hand. It is evident, now, that his physical system had been thoroughly undermined by in cessant labors, and the cares and anxieties i incident to his profession, leaving it an ,I easy prey to the destroyer. Mr. McClean was born in 1804, and hence was 66 years old. He read law with John McConaughy, Esq., was admitted to the Bar in 1825, and continued in active practice a period of 45 years, being at his death the senior member of the Bar. In 1844 he was elected to Con gress from the York and Adams district, serving throng!' the 29th Congress. In 1855 he was elected a member of the Legisla ture, serving one year. For a number of years he held the positien of President of the Board of Trustees of Pennsylvania College, of which institution he was a l warm and devoted friend. By close in- i dustry and marked fidelity in his profes sion, he had acquired a large practice, and gathered around him a number of warm personal friends who reposed implicit con fidence in his integrity. His death will make a void in the community and the legal profession, which will be extensively re alized. Mr. McClean was moreover an earnest, Consistent, life-long professor of religion, and illustrated in his daily walk the sincerity of his Christian character. His remains were interred in Ever-Green Cemetery on Saturday afternoon, the fun eral being attended by the members of the, Bar and officers of the Court, the Faculty of the College, and a number of citizens. At a meeting of the members of the Bar and officers of the Court, held on Friday afternoon, Hon. Robert McCurdy acting as Chairman and H. B. Woods, as Secre tary, the following resolutions were unan , ireolisly adopted: Resolved, That we have heard with deep emotion of the demise of Hon. Moses Mc- Clean, the senior member of the Bar of this county, whose sudden and unexpected death, this morning, has so greatly startled and aillicted this community. Resolved, That we deeply deplore the removal of one so long and Prominently connected with the administration of jus:. tice, and other public interests, in this county; whose integrity and uprightness of character had so justly secured for him the full confidence and esteem of his fel low citizens, and whose extensive personal and professional indolence was ever direct ed for the advancement of sound morality, and the promotion of the highest good of society. Resolved, That while we deeply sympa thize with the family of the deceased in their affliction we are 'consoled by the re edection that our departed fOend, by au humble, consistent, Christian life, has furnished the strongest teftimony that to him death was not a calamity, but rather an exchange of the infirmities, cares and sorrows incident to this mortal life, for the 'perfection rest and joy of immortality Resolved, That as a token of respect for the deceased we will attei4lxis funeral in a body and wear the customary badge of mourning for the period of one mouth. Resolved, That these resolutions be fur nished for publication in the newspapers of the county, and be spiad upon the Records of the Courts as a tribute to the memory of deceased. Bonotrax Trea,--The Town CoUricil being in want of finds, and a large num ber of amesaed Taxes being unpaid, the Collectors have been instructed to pro ceed to an mciurwrx couamorr of all outstandtag Borough Taxes. Tax-payers in arrears will be caned on by the collec tors blithe course of a few day; and an Who wish to save costs will do well to make arrangements for prompt payment —as payment, under the orders of the Council, will be enforced by legal process.
