York Springs, July 1889. THE BEST PLACE FOR A HORSE.— "Gossipper," in the Rural. World, says: "Winter or summer, except in a stormy time, there is no place so comfortable for colts or tired work horses, as a good pasture lot. To tie up a horse at night in a narrow cell, with a plank floor to stand cm, is species of cruelty that civi lization ought to be ashamed of. If the poor animnl must be confined like a con vict in a dungeon, for pity's sake let him have his head, and give him at least twelve feet square, with a soft dry floor to stand or lie on. In the large cities land is worth more money than horses; but on the forth there is no excuse for any such wicked economy. Ask the horse what he wants, and he will tell you that a place where he can walk around, lie down and stretch his tired limbs and roll over from one side to the other, gives him more ease and comfort, after a day of hard, work, than the most costly plank stalls, with all the accompaniments of curry-combs, stiff bristle brushes, rubber cloths and dexterous hostlers that can be produced. WATERING garden plants, as com monly practiced, is an absolute injury to vegetation, for the reason that it is not pleiatiful enough. When the earth is dry and hot, the application of a little water only increases the heat, and has a tendency to make the soil more com pressed and dryer than before, To REMOVE Gasses SpoTe.—Make a batter of wheat flour and cold water, and apply to the cloth; rub slowly by the fire and when perfectly dry, rub off the flour, and the grease will be found missing.— Very thick woolen may sometimes re. quire a second application. How TO PRESERVE EGOS.—Eggs may be preserved perfectly good for six months by rubbing them over with lin seed oil. At the expiration of that time they have been found full and quite un injured in odor. OFFICIAL DIRECTIMF. cousin' mime& President Judge—Robert J. Fisher. Associate Judges — Joseph J. It is food that cures this formidable disease.— SCHENCK'S MANDBAJLEI'ILLS act entice liver amid stomach, promoting healthy secretion, and removin Die ile nd slie wtuch have resifed from the g inacti b ve a or torpm uh id condition of these organs, and of tne system geuerally. This slug gtsh state of the body, and the consethient aceu mulation of time unhealthy substaums named prevent the proper digestion of food, and , as a natant! consequence creates d Yams., which re sults in prostration and finally in death. SCHENCK'S PDLIIII.INIC SYRUP and SEA WEED TUNIC, *hen taken regularly, mingle with the food, aid the digestive organs, make good rich blood, and as a natural consequence, give flesh and strength to the patient. Let the I:levity say what it may, this is the only true cure for con stunptiou. Experience has proved it beyond the shadow of a doubt, and thousands are to-day alive and well who a few years slum were regarded as hopeless cases, but wuo were Induced to try Dr. Scuenek's remedies, and were restored to perma nent health by their use. Due of the oral steps the physician should take with a consumptive patient is to invigorate the system-, Now now la tins to be done? Certainly no n t i t e LgLvi es ug h ine i dl i e ni thes ir thLt exhaus tead otfandpernoevervtire functions of the digestive organs. Dr. schenck's medicines cleanse toe stoinaeh and bowels of all substances winch are calculated to irritate or weaken them. They create an appetite—promote healthful digestion—make, good towed. arid, as a consequence, they invigorate and strengthen the entire system, and. more especially those parts which are diseased . If this cannot be done, then the case must be regarded as a hopeless one. If the poyuclan finds it impossible to make a PATIENT rest. nelson", If the diseased person cannot partake of good nourishing food and pro periy digest it. it is Impossible that be can gain ileshand strength; an d it is equally Impossible to bring a patient to tees condition so long as the liver is burdened with diseased bile, and the stomach laden with unhealthy slime, Almost the first request made to the physician by a consumptive patient is that he will prescribe medicines that will remove or allay the cough, night sweats and chits , which are the sure at tendants on consumption. But this should not be done, as the cough Is only am effort of nature to relieve itself, and the night sweats and chills are caused by the diseased lungs. The remedies or. dinarily prescribed do more harm than good.— They impair the function:sof tile stomach, impede healthy digestion, and aggravate rather than cure the disease. There is, afrer all, nothinglike facts with which to substantiate a position, add It is upon facts that Dr. Schenck relies. Nearly all Who have taken his medicines in accordance with his directions have nut only been cured of conatimption, but. from the fact that these medicines act with won derful power upon the digestive organs. Patients thus cured speedily gain flesh. Cleansing the system of ail impurities, they lay the foundation fur a solid. su • " structure. Ilmtering these organs to health, t ey create au appetite. The ikon is properly assimilated madeuantit of bleed t only increased, but is rich and strong and in the Twee of such a condition of the system all disease must be banished. Full directions accompany each of the medi cines, su that it is not ansututely necessary that patients should sea Dr. Schenck personally, unless they desire to have their lungs examined.
