the depth of about 13 inches, and as we

indicates avod sleighing. The railroad

A LECTVRE.--ilttiseens of the Pulpit

by Rev. E. 13. Itaffensperget of Toledo,
Ohio, (recently of Champersburg.) The
press of the different eitien and towns in
which this lecture has bees delivered are
unanimous in their comuttand4tions. Our
citizens may e;pect a highly entertain

the press represent the lecture as amus

without being prosy.

COURT DOINGI4.—The only additional
case tried in Common Pleas last week was
I . the case of , the School Directors of. Cum
bet lend township vs. Lewis A. Bushman.
It grows out of the Bounty d fficuit'es in
that township. Mr. Bushman was one of
the Cemmittee appointed to fill the quota
of Ilse township, and at Harrisburg secured
I the services of Philadelphia party to put
in a number of substitutes at a fixed price,
which was done, and he paid over the
money. Subsequently it was discovered
that five less than the requisite, number
were put in, some of the papers being
forged, and the township lost the credit of
the five mea. The School Board suttee
quently brought suit against the parties
who received the money, secured Judgment,
but failing . to make the money, concluded
lo make it out of Bushman. The latter
defended on the ground that he acted bona
Age as the representative of the School
Board, and that the latter had endorsed his
fiction by entering suit against the really
guilty parties. The amount in dispute was
$2600 and interest. The case was not con
cluded until Monday evening, when the
Jury returned a verdict for the Defendant.
Thisand the case of Manse & Swope vs.
Coahun occupied the entire attention of the
Court last week, all the other cases going
over.
011 th e applications for License were
granted except that of Jacob Stock, Gettys
burg, and Tobffus Kauffman, Franklin,
which, by reason of remonstrances, were
held over for the August Court.

CANADA. is fairly groaning tinder a I.ad of
of silver. Too mud' hard cash is bringing
ruin upon her merchants, upon her farmers,
upon her laborers. Silver ikat a fearful
discount. Uri shop-keeper who takes fit
fofty or fifty dollars a day cannot deposit tt
in bank without submitting to a shave of
many per cent. Belief is prayed for, ant
it seems is about to come in the shape of a
fractional currency. From our standpoint
the Ganadhus disease is a cariosity, second
only to the New York "relapsing fever."
