finally started; and noses being counted, 43
men and boys, all told, were found to be
aboard—still 7 short. These, however,
were picked, up,qn the wAy. In due time;.
we learn, the train reached Littlestown, but
found no escort, the Democracy of that
„vicinity being as little diposed to come up to
the support of the ticket prescribed by the
"ring s " as their brethren of Gettysburg.—
The party—or such of them as had not been
laid out by a too generous imbibing on the
way—started for Yantis' Hotel, where it
meeting—small; dull and , dispiriting—was
organized. Mr. Stenger held forth in his
usual spread-eagle style for an hour or more
on the "nigger," followed by Messrs. Wm.
McClean and H. J. Stehle. On the return
home, the engine, apparently sympathizing
with the programme of the evening, con
cluded to "fizzle" out too, blowing out one
of its bolts ! There was some lively scamp
ering to get out of the way of danger, the
blowing out of a bolt being mistaken for the
bursting of the boiler. The panic subsided,
and in due time the party reached Gettys
burg, rather the work for their trip—some
of thein thoroughly demoralized either by
bad whisky on bad politics. The camp
aign opens inauspiciously for the "ring."

PRETTY WOMEN.—A comparatively
few Eadies monopolize the Beauty as well
as the attention of Society. This ought
not to be so, but it is ; and will be white
men are foolish„ ind single out pretty
faces for companions.
This can all be changed by using Ha
gan's Magnolia Balm, which gives the
Bloom of Youth and a relined sparkling
Beauty to the Complexion, pleasing, pow
erful and natural.
No Lady need complain of a red, tan
nod, freckled or rustic Complexion, who
will invest 75 cents in Hagan's Magnolia
Balm. Its cffects are truly wonderful.

"J. N."—This wonderful man will ad
dress the population of New Oxford on
Saturday evening the 25th inst., at Tittles
town on, Tuesday night the 28th ; on the
Fair Grounds, Gettysburg, on the afternoon
of the 29th, and in the evening in the Hall.
We would not have had the nerve to make
this announcement until the great Philoso
pher, Orator and Satirist assured us that he
would assume all the pressure inseparable
from the occasion. Go and listen to the
words of truth from the inspired apostle,
whose mighty mind grasps the sublime
vision of immortality. Go and see the lift
ing of the veil. We do not say thiit God
couldn't make another man like "J. N."
but we do say that be never did ! Go and
hear "J. N." Gaze on that noble form
towering among his fellows like Saul among
his brethren ; look at that piercing eye
blazing and corruscating like a piece of
steel in a flame of oxygen ; listen to that
voice, whose sublime tones, rising above
the clangor and carnage of a million of
men in arms, solved the awful problem of
the war, and made reconciliation a possible
thing ! Go !go!!go ! ! ! Hear and see
and admire the orator, the philosopher, the
satirist, whose fame will survive that of
Washington, and
,live in the idolatry of
man,
'T wrapt in flame the realms of either glow
And heaven's last thunder abates the world below!
