According to the terms of the contracts, the road is to be commenced on the 15th of June next, and completed by the Ist of May 1870.—Frederick Re publican, t STORM AND FLOOD.—On Friday eve ning last a heavy storm passed over Gettysburg, accompanied by sharp thund er and lightning, and an unusual fall of rain. The rain commenced at about 5 o'- clock, and poured down with searcaly an intermission until about 7 o'clock. In these two hours and a half the fall of rain was so great as to sheet the streets with wa ter, the gutters not having capacity to carry it off. The small run circling the north of the town, this side of the Seminary and College, rose rapidly, submerging the ad joining fields deep enough to swim a borsit. The , tvater flowed over the top of the bridges on the Itendersville and Mum masburg road, rending the roads impassa ble, sweeping away a part of the College . walk, foot-logs, fences, Lc. The streams 'vontittned to rise for as hour or more after the rain had ceased, and at 8 o'clock the large stone brldgeoverßockCreek, on the York pike, was completely isolated, the water rushing across the pike above and belOw the bridge with a depth Of ifrimit four to five feet. A great deal of damage has been done to fencing all along the line of the creek, nearly all being swept away os. 'botti sides, bu4.wo have heard axed loss of life. Fulton, Franklin, Adams, Cumberland, York and Perry, in Convention assembled, feeling the necessity of some concerted action in re gard to the payment of the damages to and losses of property sustained in the counties aforesaid, by the raids and incur sions of, the rebels, and losses and dama ges sustained by the Union troops during the war : And whereas, These losses and dama ges as aforesaid were duly, fairly and justly adjudicated by able, honest and efficient Commissioners, duly appointed in pursu ance of the acts of Assembly ; therefore Resolved, That it is the unanimous opinion of this Convention, that it is just and right that the Legislature of the Com monwealth of Pennsylvania should pass a bill providing for the prompt payment of these claims, as adjudicated and filed in the office of the Auditor General of the State. Resolved, That every sense of justice, equity and fair dealing between citizens of the same Commonwealth, should prompt the members of the State Legislature rep resenting districts more favored by fortune, w ho suffered less by the calamities of the late war, to aid and espouse our cause, which i founded in justice and right, and in conformity with the obligations placed upon them by the Constitution of our State. Resolved, That this Convention publicly proclaim its thanks to all the members of the Legislature who have interested them selves and sought justice, by their influence and votes, to their suffering fellow citizens in the border counties. Resolved, That this Convention respect fully request the newspapers of the State to give prominent publicity to the same. Resolved,_ That when the Convention adjourns, it adj9urns to meet on the Ist Monday in November next, at 10 o'clock in Chambersburg. The Franklin county Executive Commit tee reported that $195.23 had been collect ed towards defraying the expenses of cir culating petitions !Ind for She furtherance of the movement. Sub-cOmmittees were appointed for each township in the county, charged with the duty of circulating peti tions and collecting additional funds. The Convention was addressed by Col. F. S. Stumbarigh, Hon. O. - M.- Duncan, Hon. Henry Ruby, Wm. C. Manight, John R. Orr, George Chambers, George Smith, Col. B. F. Winger and S. W. Hays, and ad journed to meet again on the first Monday of November, as provided in the last reso lution. We have frequently urged the rightful ness of these claims and the duty of the State to meet them. If ever paid at all It must be by the State, and to secure this end it will not do for the parties interested to fold their arms in indifference or inaction. The Franklin county claimants understand this, and hence their action means work.— Let them be efficiently seconded by corres ponding action in the other counties, and success may crown the effort. Unless the claimants wake up to the necessity of ac tive, energetic; concerted work, they may as well abandon all hope of indemnity.— We hope by the November meeting to see a full delegition from Adams county. And we hereby, in the name of all patriotic citizens, callbpon him for the authority for this unpatriotic, unchris tian, and disgraceful display of negro phobia. The public do not care to know who may now be willing to assume the respon sibility ; as it is quite natural that those who authorized it should try to screen themseives from the contempt of an in dignant community, by shirking all re sponsibility. The public desire to know by whom, from whom, and through whom the order of exclusion was decid ed. It was not only an outrage upon tho Sabbath School excluded ; but upon the patriotism and Christianity of our country—upon the design of the day itself; and upon the cause for which the very soldiers died whose graves were decorated by the or phans they have left us to cherish, and to remined us that "God is no respecter of persona," and "has made of one blood all nations of men, to dwe.l on all the face of the earth."
