soldiers of the war of 1812.
J. M. Feezer, of Frederick, was drowned
recently, while bathing in the river, at New
Castle, Ind.
J. Alreelit, of Freclerick, fell dead, while
conversing with his fnmily, on the 15th. from
heart disease.
Lancaster
on the 13th, a terrible accident occurred in
Lancaster by t. 1.4 ex - plosion of one of the boilers
of the Fulton Cotton Mill. David }lintel', the
engineer, and Capt. Plummer the superinten
dent, were instantly killed. Faldine Myers,
Sarah Dorwart, Annie Wolbert, and Howard
Weitzel, died of injuries sustained, while a
number of other operatives were more or less
injured by the explosion.
Josiah Brown, residing :hear the village of
New Texas, Lancaster co., has a cow that pro
duced fifteen and one half pounds of butter in
one week.
A German, Joseph Conrad, was muraerod
near Reinholdt's station on the 13th inst. His
wife and a man named Smith had been arrest( xl
as his murderers.

On the 15th inst., Drs. Smith, Culbertson
and Alleman, of Hanover, amputated the leg
of Mr. Small, residing near Conowago Chapel.
It had been injured while in the army, and re
dently becoming worse amputation was neces-

tened as the lady, bellowed, and made frantic

petticoats and feminine gear generally, which

run over by the wheels, had her left arm very
badly injured, so much so that the flesh was
mashed almost to a jelly.
A Six WEEKS' OLD CITY'..--The Union Pa
cific Railroad now rims 800 mil es we:11 of Om
aha, to a station called North Platte. Six
Weeks ago there was not a house in that place
—now;it is a flourishing town of more than
six hundred inhabitants, and Las a daily trans
ient population of as many more. A $20,000
hotel has been erected, and is doing a "land
office" business. The . town, like all frontier
towns, -is said to be a fast one—supporting
billiard halls, (one with six tables,) faro,
monte and keno banks, and the usual "con
comitants" that ge t nerally flourish in fast
burghs.
To meet the demands of the public there
NMI' be issued in a few weeks au additional
fractional currency note, of the denomination
of 15 cents. The principal embellishments
on the face of this note are an engraved like
ness of General Grant on the right hand, and
opposite, on the left of the note, a likeness of
Lieutenant General Sherman.

to-day in the rates for the leading brands of
Baltimore Family and Extra, Mak - Inge total
decline of $2 per bbl within the last tlipeo
days. There is, however, very little Ficair
selling, a further decline in prices being gen
erally anticipated. For Howard Street and
Western Flour we can give no reliable quota
tions and we therefore omit them : City Mills.
Standard Super we quote sit $9.50®10; and
City Mills Standard Extra at $12®12.50 per
bbl. Rye Flour we quote at $8®8.25, and
Corn Meal held at $5.75 per btsl.' ,
GRAIN.—The receipts of Wheat were large
this morning, the offerings comprising Some
32.000 bushels white, making a total 6137,000
bushels. The market exhibited but little
activity, although most of the Wheat receiv
ed was disposed of, and the sales show a de
cline in prices of 10 to lii cents since Satiary
day, At the opening some lots of prime red
brought 250®235 cents, but at the close 240
®245 cents wail: the best prices for prime
red. Medium-grades sold from 220 to 233
cents. A fow lots of fair white sold at 240(4;
230 cents. Corn was in fair demand, and
prices for it were pretty well mainiained.—
sales were reported of 5,000 bushels white at
1150.,1 is cents; 2,500 bushels yellow at 112®
114 cents, and 3,000 bushels Mixed at 110(0
114 cents, which embraced all the parcels sn
eered. Oats sold at' 5 cents for new, and 98
4100 cents for old, and a lot of •100 bushels
Rye brought 140 cents.
