THE CENTRE REPORTER, THURSDAY, SEP ' EVM BER 14, 1916 DEATHY, The Reporter last week briefly mentioned the death of George Cor- man, a rative of Rebersburg, who was killed by the railroad cars near Free- port, Illinoie, Bundsy a week ago. Because of the many friends and rela- tives of the decersed living in this county the circumstances surrounding his death are given. The Freeport Daily Bulletin, date of Bept. 5, says: Starting on a walk to the homo of his daughter on Sunday afternoon, George Corman, a prominent farmer of Harlem township, walked on the railroad treck of the I'linois Central, instead of going bis usual course over the highway, and was run down and killed by an Illinois Central train. His partial deafoess is said to have precluded the possibility of bearing the ¢ngine whistle ss it neared the Bentley croseing, where the accident occurred, sithough there in a likeli- hood that he heard it, as he was ob- served by the fireman to step from be- tween the raile, but be was pot euffici- ently outside the ties to prevent being struck by the beam of the pilot, ex- tending three feet ou either side, knocking him cown and sustaining injuries from which he died instantly. He suffered a hole in the bsee of the skull, a rib was broken over the heart, the under part of his right leg was cut in several places and he sostaipned internal injuries. He was aged seven- ty-two years, Particularly sad was the death of Mre, D. J. Nieman, wife of the Mill- heim clothing merchant, at her home in that place, Thursday noov., Hew- orrhage and shock, ipeident to ehjld birth, resulted in her passivg away after great sofleriog. The new born babe failed to survive. Her age was forty-eight years, seven months and twelve daye. Open Letter on Right to Train Dogs, The Reporter is requested to publish the following open letter which has | been received from Joseph Kalbfus, | secretary of the state game commie- sion, relating to the right to train dogs : We are frequently in receipt of in- quiries at this time relative to the right of those who may own dogs to furo thew loose to run as they pleare at this time of the year. Bome of these inquiries come from the owners of dogs, and some from those who are opposed to dogs, and for the benefit of both, I quote the Law in so far as game is concerned, a part of Rection 21 of the Act of May lst, 1979, as amended by the Act of April 15th, 1815, P. L. 188, which reads as fol- lowe: ‘Provided, That doge, when sac- companied by and under control of their masters, may be trained upon any of the living wild game or birds of the State, excepting elk and deer and fawp, from the first day of Bep- tember to the first day of March next following, so long as no injury is irflicted upon said animals or birde.” i The dog must be with his master | and must be under the control of such | master, and the game pursued must | not be injured.
