Owing to the ex- treme buat and the variety of diet it is not at all unusual for children to de- velop serious digestive disturbances. These are among the first symptoms of infantile paralysis as well as numer- ous other diseases of childhood. The exact relation of this condition to the disease has not ss yet been determin- ed. The unpalural fermentation might help the germ of Infantile paralysis to multiply. For this resson it is especially Inportant that intelli- gent supervision should be exercised over the diet of children. All food should be cooked. I PA “The Philadelphia Keeord.” ‘The Philadelphia Record” has hundreds of regular readers who live far beyond the bounds of the wide territory which it particularly sims to serve. Not long ago the management of ** The Record ” addressed an inquiry to some of these distant readers ssking them why they prefer “The Record’ to other prominent newspapers published nearer to their homes, Here bb » typical reply : “ Because I regard your admirable journal ass fit newspaper for all the members of the home and domestic circle. It is comprehensive in its fair, and what is most commendable, clear and cultured mind. Moreover in its armsngement of news topics, foreign, domestic, slate and local, bread should never be fed to children. Too many sweets are apt to upset the! digestion at this season of the year, With bottle fed infants care should be taken to keep the milk at a tem-| perature of from forty to sixty degrees, until it is prepared for feeding. The] nipples of the nursing bottle should be sterilized before they are used and | the water which babies, In common with all of us require in unusual amounts during the hot weailer, | should be sterilized by boiling.
