Kerlin home. Mre. Charles Sheffer and two chil- dren of Dewart were guests for a few days last week at the home of Mre. Sheffer’s cousin, Mre, Mary Rearick. Misg Vera Emerick who is keeping house for her uncle, Benjamin Em- erick, spent Sunday with her parents, Mr. aod Mrs, Frank Emerick, near Penn Hall, The Lutheran congregation at Philipsburg purchased a pipe organ last Friday and it will be installed about December 1st, The Carnegie Corporation contributed $625 toward the $1550 cost of the organ. The local W. C. T. U. has made aI- rangements for the appearance of J. Mitchell Bennette, a speaker of nation- al reputation, at Centre Hall, Friday of pext week. A more definite an- pouncement will appear next week. Casper Fielding and daughter, Mre. Thomss Wehlan and children, Viec- torie, Dorothy and Thomas, of Pitte- burgh, returned to their bome Hatur- the home of the former's brother, John Fielding, st Linden Hall, Mre. P. H. Luse and eon Fred will leave for Lewisburg this (Thursday ) morning and for a few days will be the guest of her cousin, Mrs, Charles Grenoble. Mr, Luse will make the ran to Lewisburg in his car on Bucb- day and bring his family home, Michael Bhafter, who makes his home with his sop, Bigler Bhafler, pear Millbeim, passed the ninety-first milestone in life on Monday. Wed- nesday of last week he attended the Lutheran reunion at Centre Hall and was greeted by a pumber of his friends. He appeared to be in fairly good health but on Baturday was taken suddenly ill at his home and Dr. , B. Musser of Aaronsburg was called. Btomach trouble was the cause of his illness, Prof. and Mre. G. W. Blevens of Alves, Oklahoms, spent a week at the home of Prof. and Mre. C. B. Neff, near Centre Hall. Mre, Blevens is better known as Miss Anos Ruble and is a cousin of Prof. Neff. Both Mr. and Mre, Stev'ns teach in the Slate University of Oklahoma and last year were gfanted a two years’ leave absence, Prof, Stevens is a natoralist and has made sa wonderful collection of plant life, specimens of which he has sent to all parts of the world. Their two years vacation is being de- voted to travel and study and this, their second year, is being spent at Cambridge, Massachu:etls, where Mre, Bievens will teach while her hus- band takes special work in the Ha- vard University. Ta Merchant G. O. Benner soffered se- vere burns on his left hand besides superficial burpe on his face Thursday afternoon of last week when be en- deavored to lift & pot from an oll stove » which had flamed up in the absence of the mistress of the house, Mrs, Benner had placed a pot containing s ham bone on a coal oil cook stove and left the house to atttend a meeting of a missionary class up town. Staying longer than she had expected she tele- phoned Mr, Benner to look after the meal and if necessary put water on it. As he entered his home Mr. Benner was confronted with a house full of smoke, and making his way to the kitchen found everything black with soot, He hurriedly grasped a cloth to lift the burning pot off the stove but it was so hot that his hand was severe- ly burned before he could let go. With both pot and ham bone on the floor Mr, Benner did some supple acl- ing in getting rid of the undesirable stuff, and kicked it out of the house. Dr. A. Miss Eva Bailey returned to her grandparents after spending a week very pleasantly with Centre Hall friends. Mr. and Mre, Ira SBhullz eslled on mowing machine, and who is now in the Bellefonte hospital. The journey was made in their new auto, The Lutheran Reunion, : Wednesday of last week shone bright and clear and consequently a large number of Lutherans and others were present on Grange Park at the annual reunion of the Penns Valley Lutheran charge. Each one of the five appoint- ments on the charge was well repre- sented, Only one former pastor, Rev, Fred. W. Barry, of Cumberland, Mary- land, was present. Rev. Bbultz of Snydertown was a visiting Lutheran minister. The Loysville orphan band was the guest of the charge for the day snd this feature of the occasion was enjoyed by all. Twenty-eight boyr, ranging in years from ten to six- teen, comprise the band and their playing elicited much praise from the crowds that gathered about them dur- ing the concerts which they gave in the evening on the lawn of the church, Dinner and supper was taken on the ground, lpn REBERSBURG Duck’s threshing outfit is threshing grain in this vicinity.
