Charles Poorman, of Coleville, a brakeman on the Bellefonte Central, met with 4 very serious if not fatal ac- cident Baturday morning about ten o'clock, when he fell beneath the cars of a freight train pear the Humes farm quarries. Both legs were crush- ed in a frightful manner below the knees and were later amputated at the hospital, Poorman is about twenty-five years of age and the only support of a wid- owed mother. ————— A —— fA AA Officers Installed, The officers-elect of Boalsburg lodge of Odd Fellows were installed by W. Bamuel Gilliland, state veter- insrisn, was admitted to membership in Victor Grange, at Oak Hall Station, Saturday afternoon, The sttendance oa this oceasion was quite large, by both members of the local order and others from neighboring Granges Dr. PAliliudls father, James C, Gilli. ‘dand, has prominently connected with Vietor Grange ever since its ore ' ganization, DEATHS, JAMES LINGLE. James Lingle, who for many years was identified with the public affairs in Boggs township, died in Milesburg, Friday afternoon of last week, Inter- ment was made Monday. Mr. Lingle was born November 9, 1825, in Bald Eagle Valléy, and Is of German descent, his parents Paul and Mary Lingle, havi ng come there from Dauphin county. Early in his life Mr. Lingle followed the carpenter trade, and the summer seasons he spent as a captain of a canal boat, and later purchased a boat of his own. With the exception of the one year he lived in Illinois, he continuously lived upon the Lingle farm, east of Miles- burg, until a few years ago when age incapacitated him to a large extent. In 1875'he embarked in the dairy business, which proved profitable in returns, February 17, 1859, he was united in mari isge to Miss Marcella Malone, who survives, as do also the following children : Lycurgus 1.., Centre Hull ; Edward, Charles and Flirence, wife of John Weaver, Pitcairn; Harry M., Oklaboma ; Mary, wife of Thomas Boggs; Elziwbseth, wifes of Frank Wetsler, and Bruce, of Milesburg. ! John, the ogly deceased child, died in Bhreveport, Louisiana, about three years ago, and was aged thirty-three years, George Lingle, of Bellefonte, is the only surviving brother. Alexander Lingle, also 8 brother, died recently in Des Moines, Iowa, at the age of eighty-nine years, lacking seventeen days, The deceased was a member of the Disciple Church, and in politics an ardent Democrat. MRS, CATHERINE HARTSWICK. Mrs, Catherine Hartsawick, widow of the late Dr. E. John Hartswick, died at her residence in Clearfield. She waa ill for two weeks, Mrs. Hartewick was the daughter of Thomas Huston, a prominent citizen of Centre county, sand wss born in 1825 She went with her husband to Clear- field when that town was a emasll village. Mrs. Hartswick is survived by two children, Mre. William I. Bwoope and Howard B, Hartswick, esq, both of Clearfield, and by three sisters, Mrs Franklin D. Bower, of Norristown, Pa. ; Mrs. James P. Coburn and Mrs, Evelyn Rogers, both of Bellefonte, and by three brothers, Dr. J. Ham- mond Huston, of Dayton, Ohio, and Thomas Huston, of Indianapolis, lad.
