At 1.80 o'clock this morning Patrol. men C. B. Reck and C. G, Mack saw a couple coming down Bellefonte ave- nue. They were promptly arrested and held to await the arrival of the rupaway bride's father; They told the police they bad left home about 11 o'clock in the morning and walked all the way from Madison- burg to this city, a distance of twenty- five miles, and were going to the Peno- sylvanis Railroad station to take the flyer for Buffalo when the police stop- ped them. The father arrived on a later train, and as the daughter agreed to return home with him he ordered the dis charge of the would-be bridegroom and all returned to Madisonburg together. ———— A — YP —————— State Road In Harris, The construction of a section of state road, some seven thousand odd feet in length in Harris township, is now under way. The road begins at the bridge east of Boalsburg, aod termi- pates at Oak Hall. This will give the town of Boalsburg a state road on its principal streets, and to its railroad station, a stretch of rosd very much traveled. Contractor R. B. Taylor be- gan construction at the bridge, where a fill from three to four feet is beipg made. The stone for this fill is being quarried at the blue spring, west of Boalsburg. . The Harris township road is sn ex- peusive one, This is due to the ue cessity of reconstructing the bridge between Boalsburg and Oak Hall, and also the heavy grades on the road. The citizens of Boalsburg and the township are taking a deep Interest in the work of construction, snd are quite certain that a well built road between the points mentioned will be of great benefit to them. A —— LOCALS The Repaz band, of Williamsport, will be at the business men’s picnic to furnish the band music. There will also be an orchestra. M. L. Miller, father of Mrs.’ Charles F. Lontz, of Mifflinburg, died as few da;e ago. He was a resident of Ma zepps, and was sged sixty-nine years Lola and Mary Fishburn are at the home of Mr, and Mrs. Bamuel Rowe, in Centre Hall. They are the dsugh- ters of the late Harry Fishburn, sand are inmates of the Odd Fellows Orphan Home at Bunbury. The business men of Htate College formed an organization for mutual protection. 8. E. Kimport was elect- ed president and Robert Foster seche tary. Committees were appointed to draft resolutions and a constitution for the government of the organization, Thomas B. Hayes, of Walsontown, a well known resident, met with a very singular accident. He was walk- ing slong the Pennay railroad track in that town, when a large bolt from a passing freight train struck him on the right leg about five inches above the ankle and broke both bones. As is her custom, Miss Tacy Kram- er came to the home of her father, Mer- chant H. W. Kreamer, in Centre Hall, to spend her annual vacation. Mis Kreamer, makes her home in Johns town with her sister, Mrs. 8. H. Heck- man, but finds the old home an ideal place in which to rest up for the com- ing busy season. Mr. and Mrs. E. F. Andrews, of California, cousins of J. W. Whiteman of Centre Hall, were their guests fora few days set week. Mrs. Andrews fs the daughter of John Raker, of Mifflinburg, and has been on the Pa cific Coast for some years.
