sn SE Ss CASH ROAD TAX, The (Question to be Considered by Maroy Townships throughout the State, A number of townships in this coun. ty will vote on the question whether or not road tax shall be paid in cash, the cmah tax systema to supplant the “wosk-0u8” plan. The most pro- greasive townships throughout the state will bring this subject before the people for decision at the February election, and there is little doubt but that the majority of them will vote in favor of the cash tax plan. Rightly conducted, the cash tax pian will not only bring about better roads, but bet- ter roads for less dollars, Witt a cash tax, nnd level-headed supervisors, the tax rate could, sand should, be ma- terially reduced Good roads, such as are the ideal of the traveler—the agent, the liveryman, the professional man, et. al.—are be- youd the financial of rural districts ; but better roads for the same dollars expended are sight under the new road law, and the adoption of the cash tax feature of that law. The fact that a McKean county judge has decided the law in question unconstitutional should not cause a hesitancy on the part of the voters to support the measure by ballot. The question of constitutionality will be decided by the higher courts in ample time 80 as not to interfere with the workings of law, or entangle districts. In other words, leave the question of constitutionality with the court. The question for the voter, the tax payer, is to say whether he wants to pay a cash road tax or continue the old workout systems. The bulk of the objection to the cash tax will come from the non-real estate owners, who, abilities I the instead of psying a few pennies of tax, must pay one dollar each The real estate owner should not lose sight of this fact, nor of the opportunity to secure a rebate of fifieen per cent. from the state, year, —————————— ——— Fun at Home, Don’t be afraid of a little fun at home. Don’t shut your house lest the sun should fade your carpets, and your hearts, lest a hearty laugh shake down some of the rusty old cobwebs there. If you want to ruin your sons and daughters let them think that all mirth and social enjoyment mast be left on the threshold without when they come at night. When once a house is regarded ss only a» place to eat, drink and sleep in, the work 18 begun that ends in street gadding, loafing, gambliog houses and reckless degradation. Young people must have fan and relaxation somewhere : if they do not find at their own hearthstone, it will be so ight at other and less profitable pisces. Therefore let whe fire burn brightly at night snd make the homestead delightful with all those little acts that parents so per- fectiy understand Don’t repress the buoyant spirits of your children ; half an bour’s merriment around the lamp and fireside of home blots out the re- membrance of day, and the best safe guard they can take with them into the world is the influence of a bright little domestic sanctum, ——————— He An Wants Maere Reform home it Friviteges, Fearing that Governor Pennypacker will not extend his eall for legislation beyond the subjects sei forth in his two proclamations for the special ses- sion, the House of Representatives, by resolutions, asked him (6 open the way fur five reforms at this sitting.
