Olive Matthews, keeper of a board- ing house at Butler, Pa., has sued Le- vi Blater, from whom she rents her house, for $5,000 damages for- slander, The trouble began when Slater accused the woman of stealing a duck egg and swore at her so vigorously that some of the people in the neighborhood caused his arrest for profanity. He was assessed 40 cents each for 10 oaths, 60 cents each for five and the costs, a total of $25.25. Following this the Matthews woman caused his arrest for maintaining nuisances. Then came the suit for slander, based on the accu- sation of the larceny of the duck egg, and it is said other suits will follow. Bome people will inspire strife in a community when there is not as much even as a duck egg involved. Chamberlain’s Pain Balm has no equal as a household liniment. Don’t deny your boy the healthful, restraining influence of plenty of out- door sports and athletics. There is a whole sermon in the phrase ‘“‘Muscu- lar Christianity.” Don’t make his room a sort of a junk shop for all the odds and ends of fur- niture too shabby or old fashioned to be used anywhere else in the house. Don’t be above apologizing to your boy if occasion arises. He will honor you for it. Don’t have a thing in the house too good for him to enjoy and share with you and don’t make him use the back stairs in order to save the front hall carpet. Don’t shut him entirely out of the confidential talks concerning home, business and neighborhood affairs, but teach him to respect the confidence. AA i SA lS ASSIS E. C.
