Now Brit- ish gold is being used to defeat Bryan and prevent our American silver from again taking its place as money. Vo- ter, farmer, workingman, can you see who has been choking you ? A Mn - Farmers, in P. H. Meyer and Daniel Heckman you have two worthy and well-known citizens from among your own class, for commissioners. They hail from two of the oldest and most esteemed families, the pioneers of our valley, and none of whom have held office or have been office seekers. To do their duty will be their highest aim in the important position of county Commissioners ; their past lives, of unsullied reputation, are a guarantee that they will be faithful public ser- vants, No tax-payer can consistently vote for Harry Curtin and Phil Womelsdorf for assembly, since these gentlemen in the last session voted to squander hun- dreds of thousands of dollars in crea ting new offices and clerkships with fat salaries and in favor of raising the ‘salaries of the old offices, Vote for Foster and Schofield, Judge Bimonton, rep., of Dauphin, on Tuesday scored some of the Phila delphia Republican organs with a red hot poker for trying a case in their col- regarding the “McKinley citizens tick- et” as to whether it had a right to be printed on the ballot. Silver coinage was a principle of our government from Washington down to the crime of 1873, when English gold bribed our congress to demonetize silver, and make a British gold stand- ard for the United States !!! This is where the Republicans now flopped to, Grant and Lincoln coinage should be upheld, Blaine and Garfield strongly advoca- ted silver coinage, Palmer, Shurz, age. tepublican National Ingersoll, Waterson, and strongly endorsed silver coin- viatforms, pre- vious to 1896, had strong silver resolu- tions in them. Mr. Arnold has had opp rtunity to as- sist some veteran from the 28th dis trict, as did other representatives, by obtaining for him a position in the fol. ding room at Washingt. n where pub- lic documents, speeches, are wrapped and mailed, $2 50 a day, and some 25 hands are em- ployed-—nearly all old veterans of the late war. Mr. Arnold was given op- portunity to have a man appointed from his district, but no soldier was given the job! Jas. P. Baker, a bro- ther of the editor and manager of the “Elk Advocate,” was selected, and he has been having an easy time of it, as any old maa can do the work after short practice. Mr. Baker has been at Ridgway from the middle of June to the middle of September and came home again on Bunday last to assist in bringing about Arnold's re-election, but his pay (so he says) never stopped.
