MILLHEIM, Items of Interest from Our Neighboring Town, John Burns, who had his knee cap split a few weeks ago, is improving slowly under the care of Dr. Musser. He expects to be around in a week or two. Only a few ice houses have been fill- ed so far: ice of poor quality has filled a few, except what was hauled from Brush Valley, a distance of nine miles, which is of the best quality; clear as glass and from eight to twelve inches in thickness, Protracted meeting is in progress in the U. B. church, with some seekers. Quite a number of sleighing parties last week, both young and old, went to Brush Valley aid east end of Penns Valley. Butter is scarce as ‘‘hen’s teeth.” The choice for Esq. will be the only excitement on next Tuesday's election. The contest is between D. L. Zerby, the present incumbent and H. E. Duck. “The longest pole knocks the persimmon.” The new enterprise in contempla- tion by Willis Weaver and Nev. Au- man has not been fully consummated. Any one wishing to take “stock” in said enterprise can do so by calling on either of them. ‘Dat is broper.” John Woomer and Rol. Decker say that they will be elected if they get votes enough. They say they have spent all the money that they intend to, and if not elected they are not to blame. The entertainment of BSheckler's trip around the world, in three nights, given for the benefit of the Reformed church, was one of the best of its kind ever exhibited here. His views are the finest ever shown on canvass, espe- cially the dissolving views. ‘‘Rock of Ages’ and the “Flight of the Soul,’ must be seen to pe fully appreciated. He uses a very large canvass with the yhoto-optican and the calcium sight. he entertainments are interspersed with comic views and revolving piet- ures. His descriptive part fully shows that he knows whereof he speaks. AARONSBURG. Local Briefs from Aaronsburg and Vieini. ty. Mrs. Sarah Moore died at Mifin- burg, and the remains were brought to Woodward on the 10th inst. and in- terred in the cemetery at that place. Jefore her marriage with Moore she was the widow of Solomon Ettlinger, deceased. She leaves four children, two sons living in Woodward and two daughters, both married and living in Missouri. Edward Swartz moved Bierly’s farm along the mountain north of Millheim. The place had been occupied by Emanuel Confer who has moved on to W. K. Alexan- der’s farm. Edward Frank, of South Dakota, is visiting his parents at present. He re- ports times a little dull though they have plenty to eat, raising more than they need. With them winter does not begin till about the holidays, and then they have about two months of winter when if opens up and farmers go to work. Mrs. Sarah Shafer after a four month’s visit with her daughter in Lancaster county, has returned home again, i on George ————— i — The Financial Trouble, AA 3 : “/7 There being various reports abroad a substantially accurate statement in the unfortunate matter. The liabili- ties are put at over $24,000; of this Mrs. Wolf has made herself responsi- ble for $7000. Of the balance Mr. Wit- mét Wolf has become involved by in- dorsements to amount of two or three thousand doilars for which his two third interest in the store of Wolf & Crawford has been issued upon. For the balance there will be four proper- ties of Wm. Wolf, which, at a forced sale might be knocked off at about $2000, This would make assets $11,000, in- stead of $5000 as given out by some re- ports, as against $24,000 liabilities. There are a number of preferred judgments, first set near $4000 ; after these $2027 ; next §7402—entered in name of trustess for various individu- als : then follow later ones. The first set will come out in full, and the se- cond possibly only pro rata, with no prospect for those that follow, unless property is knocked off far above usu- al forced sales, The # interest of Witmer Wolf in the store was knocked off at sheriffs sale to Orvis & Bower att'y for $2500; all the other personal property of Wm. and Witmer Wolf went for $100. No new cases of smallpox have been reportod from tne infected district at Pyrone Forges for several days, and under the care of Dr. F. K. Fickes, the twelve persons afflicted, mostly with varioloid, are convalescing. Of the twelve cases at Tyrone Forges six are smallpox and six varioloid. No new case has been reported since Thursday, and with the precautions now being taken it is reasonable to ex- pect there will be no further spread of the disease, P. F.
