    COBURN,
A Very Interesting Democratic Meeting
Held at This Place,
Mr. N. B. Shaeffer and family, of
Zion, Pa., spent Sunday with T. W.
Hosterman, Mrs. Schaefler's parents,
spent a few days at the home of her
daughter Mrs, John Hoffa.
George Van Valm of Johnson burg
Elk county, Pa., and H. B. Ulrich, of
Renova, are paying their friends in
this vicinity a short visit.
R. T. Vonada and wife, of Altoona,
are off on a ten days vacation to friends
in this and Brush Valley.
Quite a number of our people were
at Millheim last Saturday to be pres-
ent at the Columbus Day celebration.
It is rumored that there will be a
quiet wedding in our place in the near
future. |
On account of the long continued |
drought some of the wells at this place |
have gone dry.
James Schofield candidate for the |
legislature spent Sunday at this place.
A rousing Democratic meeting was
held in the school house at this place |
on last Saturday evening, which in
point of attendance and enthusiasm
eclipsed any political meeting ever |
held here. Promptly at seven o'clock |
the meeting was called to order by J. |
T. Garthoff the regular chairman, J. |
C. Stover being absent on account of |
sickness, P. H. Stover
chairman for the evening and H. E. |

fonte, who pitched into the McKinley
tariff bill with a vim, this was follow- |

for about one hour and a half, on

A Regular Water Famine in Altoona
Dirty linen and darkness are the |
latest probabilities of the Altoona w a- |
ter famine. Two of the largest laun- |
dries in the city were burned out Mon- |
day night, and the others cannot get
enough water, dirty as it is, to do their
work. The East Side electric light
plant must close down unless more
water is furnished, and the other plant
is kept in operation through the gen-
erosity of the Pennsylvania railroad |
company, which has permitted the |
running of a hose line from one of its
plugs to the big boilers,

On payment of one cent and the |

off about the same as an express order.
There will be no writing on it by the
postmaster the sender indorsing it as a
