Five men are reported to have been killed and several injured. It is reported by parties near the opening that twelve men are in the mine and that a fire is raging similar to that of last March. If this shonld be the case there is slim hope of any oue at work when the ex- plosion occurred escaping alive. But one man, George Ford, was killed in the explosion, Isaac Jones was badly injured. The gas was ienited by Ford, wiio dropped his safety lamp from the riage on which he was descending. The excitement was intense until the rescuing party who went down were hoisted to the top.
