These could be pulled out in less than ten min- utes in front of every premises by the owners, which would add to the neatness and taste of the premises. Hunting season opened a week ago and there has been considerable baog- ing going on in the woods since; squirrels are none of our nimrods have come home with enough game to make a decent meal for a fellow. Samuel Hess, of near Pinegrove Mills, is now in his 89 year, and his gen- eral health is good. This old patriarch belongs to the good old race, now near extinct, whose word was as good as their bond. Mr. Hess, about 30 years ago, was elected connty commissioner, of this county, and has been an unflinching Democrat all his life time. —Major Hilton, the well-known apostle of temperance, from Washington, D. C., will deliver a series of temperance lectures in Millheim on the 10th, 1ith and 12th. He is an eloquent speaker and an earnest advocate of cold water principles. Our friends in Millheim will find him well worth hearing. —|t may be of interest to our read- ers, who observe the constant transporta- tion of prop timber from oar valley per rai road, to know that the props are sold by the ton. On tracts that can be operated con- venient to the railroad, the net profits on a car-load of prop timber are said to be about $5, which is a good thing for pars ties engaged in prop timber operations, gettiog its supply of grain from the west. Some ten car loads of wheat have been received within the last ten days, and five more are on the way.
