DANGEROUS DRUGS. How to Control Effectually All Such Rochester, N, ¥. Dost-Express, A gentleman who has spent the summer abroad, said to our reporter, that the thing that impressed him most of all was the number of holi- days one encounters abroad and the little anxiety the people display in the conduct of business affairs. ‘‘Men boast here,” he sald, ‘‘that they work for years without a day off; in Eu- rope that would be considered a srime.’’ Mr. H. H. Warner, who was pres- st at the time, said, *“This 1s the irst summer in years that I have not jpent on the water. Been too busy,” “Then, I suppose you have been advertising extensively?’ “Not at all. We have always here- tofore closed our laboratory during July, August and September, but this summer we have kept it running day and night to supply the demand, which has been three times greater than ever »efore in our history at this season.” “How do you account for this?” “The increase has come from the eniversal recognition of the excellence of yur preparations. We have been nearly len years before the public and the jales are constantly increasing while sur newspaper advertising is constantly diminishing. Why, high scientific and edical authorities, now publicly con- sede that our Warner’s safe cure is the only scientific specific for kidney and liver diseases and for all the many diseases caused by them.” ‘Have you evidence of this?” “Abundance! Only a few weeks ago Dr. J. L. Stephens, of lebanon, Ohio, a specialist for the cure of nar- cotie, ete., habits told me that a num- ber of eminent scientific medical men had been experimenting for years, test- Ing and analyzing all known remedies for the kidneys and liver, for, as you may be aware, the excessive use of all narcotics and stimulants destroys those organs, and until they ean be restored to health the habits cannot be broken up! Among the investigators were such men as J, M. Hall, M, D,, Pres!- dent of the State Board of Health of Iowa, and Alexander Neil, M, D,, Professor of Surgery in the college of Physicians and Surgeons and president of the Academy of Medicine at Colum- bus, who, arter exhaustive inquiry, re- ported that there was no remedy known to schools or to scientific inquiry equal to Warner's safe cure!” “Are many persons addicted to the use of deadly drugs?” ‘*There are forty millions of people in the world who use opium alone, and there are many hundreds of thousands in this country who are victims of mor- phine, opium, quinine and cocaine. They think they have no such habit about them—so many people are un- conscious victims of these habits, They have pains and symptoms of what they call malaria and other diseases, when in reality it is the demand in the sys- tem for these terrible drugs, a demand that is caused largely by physicians’ prescriptions which contain so many dangerous drugs, and strong spirits, and one that must be answered or silenced in the kidneysand hver by what Dr. Stephens says is the only kidney and liver specific. He also says that mode- rate opium and other drug eaters, if they sustain the kidney and liver vigor these habits in moderation.” “Well does not this discovery give you a new revelation of the power of safe cure?” “No, sir; for years I have tried to convince the public that nearly all the diseases of the human system originate in some disorder of the kidneysor liver, and hence I have logically declared that if our specific were used, over ninety per cent, of these ailments would dis- appear. absorb these poisons from the blood and become depraved and diseased.”’ “When these emioent authorities thus publicly admit that there is no remedy like ours to enable the Kidneys and liver to throw off the frightful ef- fects of all deadly drugs and gxcessive use of stimulants it is an admission of its power as great as any one could de- sire; for if through its influence alone the opium, morphine, quinine, cocaine and liquor habits can be overcome, what higher testimonial of its specific power could be asked for?” “You really believe then, Mr. Warner, that the majority of diseases come from kidney and liver com- plaints?” “*I1do! When you see a person mop- ing and groveling about, half dead and half alive, year after year, you Imay surely put him down as having some kidney and liver trouble.” “The other day I was talking with Dr. Fowler, the eminent oculist of this city, who said that half the patients who came to him for eye treatment were affected by advanced kidney dis- ease, Now many people wonder why in middle Jife their eye sight becomes 82 poor. A thorough course of treat. ment with Warner's safe cure is what they need more than a pair of eye glasses. The kidney poison in the blood always attacks the weakest part of the body; with some it affects the eyes; with others the iead; with others the stomach or the lungs, or rheumatic disorder follows and neuralgia tears them to pieces, or they lose the powers of taste, swell or become my t mn other functions of the body. man would not give his all to have the vigor of youth at command?” “The intelligent physician knows that these complaints are ab symptoms; they are not the disorder, t symptoms not of disease of the head, the eye ®r stomach, or of viziltty, FARM NOTES, MoOULTING,.--All living things, as well as inammate objects, undergo changes during life or existence. Our domestic birds show changes from chickenhood to maturity, afterward the annual change of plumage comes more regularly and is looked for by every observant breeder, but with what precaution and prepara- tion we know not, only judging by pre- conceived opinions on other matters of as much interest to the fancier, the process of moulting we fear does not receive the proper attention due it by the majority ot poultrymen. Moulting 1s a severe drain on the system while it lasts, but after the old feathers are re- placed by the new, and the birds safely through the process, the stimulus of change makes them healthier and also makes them lay with increased vigor, after beg fully recuperated, for old feathers contain matter favorable to the increase of lice and parasites, as well as to that of skin diseases. When moulting takes place early in the seas- on, as it does when the fowls the prev- fous year had matured early the change 18 usally not severe, because the weath- er 1s favorable and the fowls can find many of the delicacies that they need for feather making and recuperation but when the cold winds of November, and the pelting sleet and snow reach the nade ones that are slow to feather out, there is intense suffering, besides danger of contracting disease. Now see to your moulting birds, and give a week, for it is a great feather maker, also any kind of food and drink that 1s nutritious, strengthening and stimulat- ing. THERE is growing desire among the poultry raisers to change the style of poultry houses, and repiace those now in use with something that can be moved. A good design has four old carriage wheels attached so that it can be moved from one part of the yard or field to another without trouble, In this way it is surprising how large a house can be moved and with what ease it can be done. The advantage claimed is freedom from a number of diseases that are always more or less present when the poultry house has stood for any length of time in one place. When a portable fence 1s used the position of the house and yard can be changed in a very lictle tims and the poultry made both healthy and happy by new fields and fresh earth. Tue Poland China is the favonte of the Western farmers, and it is due to the fact that the breed is not so closely inbred as are the Berkshires and Es- sexs.
