Well, as far as we are concerned, we would not have married David Davis for double that sum, : ents ineeeme es The Postal Telegraph Company has opened its line from New York to Chi- cago, and on Sunday conversation was distinctly carried on between the two ci ties, by the electricians in charge. The distance is about one thousand miles. The wire used showed only one-tenth the insular resistance of the average iron wire and one-fifth of the best iron wire. This “compound iron,” as it is called, promises to make & revolution in tele- graphy. om oy ps sien Dispatches from St. Petersburg say that pronunciamentos are being ciren- lated throughout Russia which are caus ing a great deal of alarm among mer chants, householders, and especially among the nobility, The documents are gcattered broadcast among the lower and irresponsible classes and bave already bad so much influence that genuine alarm is felt by the Government, which isin fear of some approaching general uprising. The Socialist leaders are aim ing at something which will approach concerted action of all the disaffected Social elements. Ope proclamation in particular, calls upon the people to rise and pillage all nobles, usurers and Jews during the Easter holiday festivities, which began a fortnight hence, and lasts for a week, during which little work is done, and the laboring classes are come paratively idle and a good bit of drinks ing is done, RAILROAD CALLED TO ACCOUNT. On the suggestion of the Attorney General, President Judge Simonton has awarded a writ of quo warranto against the Pennsylvania, Slatington and New England Railroad Company returnable on the 23d day of April. Thes ion of the Attorney General sets forth that the said company has claimed for the past year and yet claims to have, without any lawful warrant within this Common- wealth, the franchises, liberties and privi- leges of a railroad. Wherefore the At torney General suggests that the Court award the Commonwealth a writ of quo warranto directed to the Bheriff of Northampton county, summoning the company to appear and show by what warrant it claims to have the franch liberties and privileges of a railroad. The same action has been taken in regard to the Delaware and Slatington Railroad Company, the writ to be retornable on the same day, April 23. The issuing of these writs from the Dauphin county courts is a departure from the former castom, as heretofore writs of quo war- ranto have been issued out of the county in which the corporation exists, Attor- ney General Cassidy believes that this kind of proceeding can be brought in the Dauphin conaty court and the issue to any part of the Commonwealth, as other proceedings in which the Common- wealth is the plaintiff, i ov teeta, e Republican Congressional A - tionment bill divides the State with, "up Hata a eS 8 gt Drs . a ablican than the Nichol bill, and as on ation Stats bave a majority a the House, ere is @ 1 of ita bei ed in that body Philny.
