A VOLCANO IN TUB OCEAN.
Ban Francisco, March 9.—The Honolu
lu Gazette of February 28 contains an ac
count of a remarkable submarine volcanic
"Utbrrnk in Kealakeakaun Bay, near the
entrance to the harbor. The natives re
port that the eruption occurred at three
o'clock on the morning of the 24th, ap
pearing like innumerable red, blue and
green lights. In the afternoon several
boats visited the eruption, cruising over
the most active pTt, where the water was
in a state- of pecu!iar activity, boiling and
appearing as if pa<sing over rnpds, or
very much like the water at 11*11 (sate,
New Y'irk. Blocks of !av two feet square
came up from below, frequently striking j
and jarring the boats. As the lavu was
soft 110 haun was done. Nearly all of the
pieces on reaching the sur/acu weru red
hot, emitting steam aud gas, strongly sul
phurous. A rumbling noiso was heard,
ike that of rocks in a freshet, caused, ri"
doubt, by the eruption of lava from the
submarine crater, which is supposed to be
a crack or line ot rupture, extending a'
lea-t a utile from shore. Another - ,:u
