On last Saturday morning about one
o'clock the millinery store of Miss Mary
Davis, on II igh street, in this place, was
entered hy burglars and two trays of jewel

to the store was effected by breaking out
one of the hu ge lights of glitss at the side
of the front door. .uilea iiutnlier of the

from. After gaining acre-s to the store
the midnight prowlers broke in the side of
the show-ca.-e w here the jewelry w as kept
and carried off two trays. Their exit and
retreat mu-t have been a hurried one. as
pieces of broken glass and ji welry were
scattered along down the alley adjoining
Mi-s Davis" property towards the railroad
depot for some distance, evidently falling
from the tray in their ha-ty flight. It is
reported that one ring was found some
three mili-s south of town on the Wilmore
road.
On Friday night or Saturday morn
ing the wan-room of Mr. Andrew Stritt
maler near the depot was entered by bur
glars and as near as ran ! ascertained
about thirty or forty pounds of bacon car
ried off. The entrance to the room was
ffectcd by breaking the glass and sa-h of
i window. The burglars had first tried to
get into Mr. Strittniaters" store room by
ireaking one of the windows of that immi
hut after br 'itkingone of thelights of glass
they found the window secured on the in
side hv iron liars running across which
prevented their access to the store room.
A couple of pieces of the bacon were
found on Saturday on the Wilmore road
near the bridge Ix-low iriflith's dam.
