On Tuesday afternoon, Mr. Joseph Davis and his brother David Davis, who re side about one and a half mile east of this place started from town taking with them a portable engine which they lotended using In baling bay. They had bitched to the engine a pair of spirited young norses and a pair of mules, aod when opposite the Alms house David left Joseph who wa walking alongside or the team driving, and went over to the Almshouse to see Mr. Lilly. A few minutes after a lady driving a horse and buggy met tnem and passed, when the team got frightened and shied off to the side of the road, throwing Josepb Davis down under the wheels of the engine which passed over his left leg, breaking it about i three Inches above the knee. The team ran a short distance, when they pulled loose from the engine and then ran on about a mile before they stopped, but escaped with out any Injury to the horses, but the engine was slightly damaged. Mr. Davis was taken to bis home and Dr. F. C. Jones of this place summoned, who set the broken bones, and we understand he Is now resting as well as could be expected nnder the cir cumstances. A very interesting and highly instructive meeting was held in the school bouse in this place on Saturday last by the teachere of Washington and Portage townships, and County Superintendent Cramer.
