John Woodring and Emanuel Rodgers, of Tyrone, were out hunting on Frida v last! wnen Mr. Woodring shot and disabled a squirrel, but did not kill It. Mr. Rodgers put his foot on It to kep It from Retting away, when Mr. Woodring fired another load into It. part of which entered Mr Rod gers foot, inflicting an uly and dangerous wound. A physician was called who dress ed the wound, after which the Injured man was taken to his residence. It is thought the wound will prove, fatal. The Twentieth Annual Session of the Cambria County Teachers' Institute will b held In the Court.House, Ebensborg, during the week .beginning October 11th. The teachers voted last year to have the institute held this year before the genera opf ning of the country schools, and Supt. Strayer has made arrangements accordinely. Several prominent Instructors and lecturers have been secured, and the coming session prom ises to be the largeet ever held in the coun ty. Reduced rates will be made by hotels and private houses to teachers and directors who attend tbe Institute. Some young men who were sitting np with a sick man In Cairolltown about two o'clock on last Sunday morning saw a fire bursting through the roof of the wash house of Mr. Emanuel Wentz, who resides about half a mile north of that place. They gave the alarm, and a number of people hurried to the scene and with the aid of buckets snd a force pump, which Mr. Wentz had conve nient, succeeded In saving that gentleman's dwelling, but the wash house was entirety consumed. Mr. W. was not aware of his danger until he was aroused by the people who had gone there from Carr- lltown. rbilip C. Jarrett, president of the Slate board of public charities; Cadwaller BW dle, general agent and secretary, and W. J. Sawer, of Pittsburgh, a member of the board, have Just completed a tour of Inspec tion of the Jails of M.fflin, JuniataBedford, Huntingdon and Fayette counties. They say the Jail at Pedford is very dark, and so damp that tires are kept burning during t he warmest weather. The Juniata, Mifflin and Hnntingdoti jails are also condemned. Bat the Uniontown jail is the worst of all. In the daytime it Is as dark as a cave, and male and female prisoners miDgle together indis criminately, while It is unclean and poorly ventilated. Tony Quojliop'o, an Italian, employed i on a pipe line was brutally murdered on ! last Friday evening by two companions of the same nationality, named Nicholas An- j geio and Frederick Spiffen, back of Kauf- man's mil, in Westmoreland county. The I three quarreled over a mall money trans- ' action and Angelo and Spiffen set npon Quojliopio with knive?. revolvers, and pick- j handles. After Angelo had crushed his skull with a pick-handle Spiffen jumped on his prostrate form and stabbed him sever al times in the breast. Death was almost instantaneous. The murder was committed in full view of the other workmen, and In the excitement following the murderers es caped. They are still at liberty. He was married about thirteen moDths ago to a daughter of Mr. Peter O'Neill, of Munster township, and re moved to Scottdaie.
