They attack both old and young, evidently hay ing no respect for age, sex or beauty. It was announced last week tnat Misa Agnes McDonnell, of Summitville, thiscoun ty, who had been organist at the Catholic Church here for the past two years, had entered the convent of Carmelite nuns at LonJsTllIe, Ky. Many were the expressions of sorrow at the loss to the world of so cul tured, talented and amiable young lady as Miss McConnell. But that she has chose wisely, none doubt ; for from childhood she had ever evinced a deep religious feelin and her life was a worthy example to her fex. The choir here will miss her. for she was an excellent musician and had few equals as a vocalist Iler place here as or ganist, however Is very acceptably filled by her sister MIsb Ella. The hosts of friends which Miss Agnes had made will, however mnch they regret her loss, join in wishing Ileaven's choicest blessings on her In the holy lire she basshosen. A man named Harvey employed at Chas. Lahey's coal works met with a very serious accident on Monday last. He was endeavor ing to couple some cars when he was knock ed down and falling with one leg across the rail, one of the wheels ran over bis thlih bndly bruising and lacerating ir. Dr. G. W. Grove attended to the wounds, and thinks tiie bone is not broken. Yet there Is considerable danger feared from erysipelas or gangreen. To-day, Tuesday, our streets have been thronged with idle men; a sight not witness ed for several months. The cause was that notices had been posted up at the various mines yesterday notifying the men that after June 1st, the price for mining coal would be reduced to n."5 cents per ton. This morning delegates from Gallitzin, Coalport, South Fork and Lilly met here in Eeaghey's Hall and remained in conference with a number of the operators and their representatives most of the day. Tho outcome of the con vention was that the men go to work to morrow at 35 cts. per ton and at the end of two weeks another meeting will be held. The miners here are unanimous la denounc ing the action cf the Clearfield miners in going back to work at the old rates. It Is claimed that the C'earfirld strike was ended by bought treachery, and there are the strongest grounds for believing it. Should another strike occur in that region, the Billy miners will hardly send hundreds of dollars worth of provisions, as they did during the past two months. !
