The deceased was the widow of the late John Bradley, a prominent merchant of Loretto, and widely known throughout the county, whose death occurred a few years ago. Mrs. B. was a highly respectable lady, and was held in the greatest respect and esteem in the community In which she had spet so many years of h'er life. She was a devoted Chris tian and pos essed all the virtues of a good . and true woman. Five sons and two daugh ters, one of whom is married, survive her. The current issue of the Somerset Dem ocrat contains a long account of the dastardly doings of a young and well dressed tramp who was arrested and lodged in Jail in that place on Wednesday of this week, after hay ing succeeded in outraging no less than four young girls and a young widow woman within a week's time while passing through that county. It seems from the published account that the lecherous scoundrel told a plausible story of some kind wherever he went, and by that means succeeded in in ducing his victims to accompany him until he reached a proper place for his infamous de signs, when he forced them to yield to his unholy purpose by flourishing a revolver and i bowie knife and "threatening to shoot and j carve them to pieces if they did not submit, j The question of the duty of the" authori- ; ties of a borough in removing Ice from pave- ments and orossings has Just been considered bv the Supreme Court in the case of Kline against the borough o. Mauch Chunk. Kline stepped on snow made slippery by travel while crossing a public thoroughfare, and falling sustained injuries for which a Jury awarded him $100 damages. The borough took the case to the Supreme Court, which holds that a borough cannot preypnt general slipperiness of the streets and crossings by snow and ice, but that it can prevent accu mulations of tho same which render pedes trianism dangerous. As it did not appear that Kline had fallen on a ridge of snow, tho Court held that the verd ict should have been In favor of the borough. The Johnstown Trihunt of Saturday last says that during the forenoon of that day a young man named David Londregan, son of Michael Londregan. an old and respected cit izen of Conemaugh borough, whose mind has been affected for some time past, escaped from his father's residence by the back door and ran at full speed toward Woodvale. As soon as his father discovered his escape he pursued liim, but the young man succeeded In reaching Woodvale, where he took pos sesion of a horse and buggy standing in front of a private residence, and Jumping Into the vehicle drove rapidly up the street. Before he could be overtaken he leaped from theTiuggyashort distance above the Wood vale crossing, and nearly opposite the "Bluff," ami threw himself under the wheels of a freitht tnin. which passed over his right arm, grinding it off close to the shoulder. Dr. Lnwman visited him after he had been brought back to sis home, arid the prospects are that he will recover, nis father was making arrangements to take him to Dix mont last Wednesday. David says he did not intend to kill himself, but that his object was to Jump on a train and go to Pittsburgh. Gporge Rindewalt attempted to force his way into a disorderly house in Johnstown at a late hour on Sunday nijht last, and with that object in view proceeded to batter in the door with an axo. Bfore Ke accomplished his purpose, however, one of the three in mates, all of whom are sisters named Johns, and who at the timp wpre entertaining two young rupn named Joe Myrrs and George Alien, drew a bead on the btrcd"r with a pistol from an upper story window and fired four shots, one of which took effect near the left shoulder-blade and passing dowuward lodged close to the spine. Bimiewalt at once made his way to his boarding house, not far away, where he was soon after found in bed , and arrested by an officer. Meantime the three girls and two young men hud fled from the house, but were subsequently taken into custody, as was also the owner of the house, Mrs. Wagner, who occupied a portion of the building. All were given a hearing and each fined $3 and costs, or six days in the lock-up. Each nf the principal parties suc ceeded in obtaining the requisite bail, and all of them were soon after released. Binde walt's wound is a serious one, though there is no reason to anticipate fatal results. " Ltjkat Isk." It is desirable that a permanent institution of this kind be estab lished in our midst, of which this will con stitute its first session. The primary object of the Institute is to more thoronphlv fit teachers for the noble work In which they are engaged, and to prive them practical and approved methods which they mav profitably employ in their future work in the school room. To this end, a Model School, com posed of primary pupils, will be established in connection with the Institute. Although under the supervision of tho managers of the school, the Co. Sup't will make a spe cialty of this department. Methods in in struction and in school management will be given in theory, and at once put into active and actual operation by teachers In the Model School, under the immediate direction of those in charce of the Institute. The bi weekly meetings of teachers for class criti cism an"d discussion of work will afford op portunities for exchanging opinions and ideas of ways, means and methods of con ducting school-room work generally. All necessary conveniences requisite to efficient work will be at the disposal of students. All grades of classes will be formed, class standing not being sufficient to determine eligibility to the Institute. For further in formation call on or address L. Strater or C. A. From the Johns town Tribune of Thursday we learn that on the preyious Wednesday afternoon a brutal outrage -was committed on a young widow woman named Arthur, who resides with her father, Mr. Varner, in Conemaugh township. She had gone to East Conemaueh on the day stated to attend to some business, and start ed for home at 3 p. sr. by way of Franklin borough. She oon noticed that a inan was following her. He passed her and was soon out of sight, but Mrs. Arthur had not gone very far on the road when tbe man sprang from behind a bush and struck her in the face, felling her to the ground. ITe repeated the blows sereral times on her head and face, wounding her quite severely. His purpose was fortunately interfered with, however, by the screams of two little girls who were gath ering tea-berries and had witnessed the at tack on Mrs. Arthur. The villain made his escape, going towards Johnstown. Mrs. A. songht refuge in a neighboring house, her clothing being torn and covered with mud. A stranger who was up In that neighborhood near the hour of the assault wr.s subsequent ly arrested, but he clearly established hit innocence, and was of course discharged.
