CAMERON.
D. 11. Spangler an 1 wife, of Sterling
Bun, spent Sunday with John Schwab
and wife.
Canoe Run mines arc still shut down
and undoubtedly will be for some time
yet.
The farmers are through farming, and
are now filling their coal bins and wood
houses with fuel for the coming winter,
which is predicted to be a cold one.
Operator 11. F. Foster, of Sterling
Run, purchased one of A. F. Walker's
fine bird dogs this week, after seeing it
work in the woods, waß so well pleased
with it that he purchased it.
Cameron was well represented this
week at Emporium, owing to court pro
ceedings, some of which are very inter
esting to the public.
Our hunters are all reporting poor suc
cess, as birds are very scarce and also
very wild.

Operator E. S. Randolph, of Empori
um, is learning the electric block system
at the tower, preparatory to taking one
of the positions as soon as the eight hour
schedule takes effect.
D. W. Eastman, of Sterling Run, call
ed on friends in town Sunday.
Grace and Nellie Logue, Audra Hill
and Grace Jordan ef the Hast Side were
the guests of Mrs. W. R. Smith,
of Wlllowdale, Sunday evening.
The trolley car struck a valuable dog
in front of the opera house one day this
week and killed it instantly. The animal
belonged to Darius Ives.
Acting bridge foreman L. C. Summer
son and men have putin a new dam at
Tanglefoot Run for the P. R. R. Co.,
which furnishes a full supply of water
for the trains.
Clare Johnson was a guest of his
cousin Flossie Johnson Sunday.
W. W. Johnson, G. S. Hill and Henry
Hill are attending court this week in the
capacities of jurymen.
Darius Ives and family spent Saturday
with the former's mother on Mason Hill.
MissCallwell, ofSinnamahoning, spent
Sunday with Flossie Johnson.
G. S. Hill and family, of Grove Hill,
called on relatives and friends in town
Sunday.
L. H. Smith is busy threshing his
buckwheat this week.
Wm. Kailbourn was a business caller
in Sterling Run Saturday.
Elmer Hill, of Grove Hill, was the
guest of W. R. Smith Sunday.
Lloyd Logue, of Renovo, is home on
his vacation.
Taking advantage of the beautiful day
a number of our young people were seen
promenading the boardwalk Sunday.
Work on the new sewer between River
Terrace and Jordan Avenue is at a stand
still on account of the plumbers strike.
Hiram S. Getchell is taking his vaca
tion this week and is visiting Philadel
phia, Atlantic City and Hyners Run. A
letter received from the Bellevue-Strat
ford this week reports him in good health
and having a good time. Operator Cupp,
of Renovo, is relieving him.
A. W. Smith has accepted a position
in the boiler shop at Renovo lor the P.
R. R. Co., and will begin his duties Nov.
Ist. Congratulations (
James Grugan from Olympia, Wash
ington, who is a brother-in-law of B. J.
Collins is visiting at the home of the latter
this week. This is the first time he has
visited this section in twenty years.
County Supt. Mattie Collins and Mrs.
James K. Jordan, of Emporium, and
Gertie Fleming of Lock Haven, are also
guests ot B. J. Collins and wife.
Alice Jordan is visiting relatives in
Castle Garden,
W, R, J with was a busioess caller in
Driftwood one day this week.
Our genial mail messenger, Colonel J.
M. English smilingly delivered the usual
supply of edifying postal cards Saturday,
from the dear friends (?) below, (as usual
the Irish) had to take their i"egular dose.
However, Assistant Postmaster, Thad
Brooks, kindly erased the pencil work be
fore mailing in order to spare our feelings,
for which we extend thanks. Colonel
English says that the route must be kept
up regardless of any one's feelings and
while he is very sorry for the PRESS cor
respondent he is prepared to deliver any
thing from a hair pin to a feather bed, as
long as it is properly stamped. Let the
good work goon and be joyful.

The "dollar social" at the M. E.
church. Saturday evening, was a grand
success.
Mrs. J. E. Smith returned home Fri
day from a two weeks visit at Elmira and
Lock Haven.
11. F. Foettr having purchased a fine
gun and an English Setter dog, undoubt
edly the birds will suffer now.
Dean Hoag has recovered from a full
run of typhoid fever, BO that he is able to
be out a little. >
Evangeline Brooks, of Sinnamahoning,
was a visitor in town Saturday.
Fred Shaffer went to Loek Haven
Hospital last Tuesday. He is reported
in a serioas condition.
A large number of our men of town
are attending court this week.
Minnie Losey and Mrs. C. G. Howlett
were Emporium visitors Saturday.
Rev. Allen held "Harvest lIom«" ser
vices in the M. E. Church, Sunday even
ing. He delivered a very good sermon
and the church was beautifully decorated.
Mrs. Delia Lord ia visiting Mrs. W.
P. Barr on Huston Hill this week.
Joe McNarney, of Emporium, visited
Mrs. Thos. Lewis and family over Sun
day.

spending a few weeks in town, guest of
Delic Lawsou.
Mazzie Reid visited her friends in Em
porium Sunday.
Reuben Andrus, of Easton, Pa., is
home on a hunting vacation.
M.J. Lawson spent some pleasaut
hours with his parents on Sunday.
Mrs. David Toner and her mother, is
visiting her son Clayton at llenovo.
Mrs. George Leavitt made a business
trip to Emporium one day last week.
Irene and Vera Robinson returned to
their borne at Cameron on Friday, after
spending their vacation with grand-parents
at this place. We were very sorry to
see our little singers leave.
Mrs. J. Reid, made a social call at
Emporium Sunday.
Mrs. Kautz, of Emporium, visited her
many friends at this place Friday. We
were all very glad to see her looking so
well.
Mrs. W. llaynes, of Rathbun,twas he
guest of Mrs. Kirkpatrick Sunday.
B. L. Lawson, of Olean, N. Y., called
on his parents, Saturday. We are pleas
ed to learn Dick likes his new position
as yard brakeman.
Mre. Evers is spending a few weeks,
with her sister at Williamsport.

FIRST FORK.

near the B. & S. depot their place, where
they will be at home to their friends after
Oct 15th.

to set a bear trap, where one bad devour

head aud one leg, and bad tbe mishap of
getting caught biniself, one of the spikes
running through bis hand. Bears have
chased Wui. Logue's sheep in from the
woods several times this fall but the hunt
ers have been unnble to get a shot at theui
yet. A large one crossed the road just
below the Company line and went across
the creek the other day.
About 40 men are working on and
near the site of the new stone crusher
above Haynes Bros' place, and we under
stand it will be crushing stone in a few
weeks at farthest. Several of the men
are boarding at W. W. Wykoff's at tbe
Lushbach depot.
A uuuiber of our citizens are attend
ing court this week, Geo. Goss, Fred
Caldwell, LeGrand Wykofl, Miles Smith
and 11. M. Williams.
Hot weather has delayed fall seeding
and other farm operations though most
of our farmers have their potatoes nearly
all out of the ground. Potatoes are not
a good crop here this year, being smsrll
potatoes and few in a hill. Some fields
have a good many rotten ones.
A. S. Bell formerly of Emporium has
moved onto the Bowen place.

next term of Licenie Court will be granted to
take effect on the first Monday of January, 1908,
and to eipire March 31, 1909. Beginning with
January Term, 1909. and thereafter from year to
year, applications for liquor license will be heard
on the first day of the regular January Terms of
Court and licenses granted at such January

next succeediug and expire on the 31st day of
