The farmers are through farming, and are now filling their coal bins and wood houses with fuel for the coming winter, which is predicted to be a cold one. Operator 11. F. Foster, of Sterling Run, purchased one of A. F. Walker's fine bird dogs this week, after seeing it work in the woods, waß so well pleased with it that he purchased it. Cameron was well represented this week at Emporium, owing to court pro ceedings, some of which are very inter esting to the public. The trolley car struck a valuable dog in front of the opera house one day this week and killed it instantly. The animal belonged to Darius Ives. Acting bridge foreman L. C. Summer son and men have putin a new dam at Tanglefoot Run for the P. R. R. Co., which furnishes a full supply of water for the trains. Clare Johnson was a guest of his cousin Flossie Johnson Sunday. W. W. Johnson, G. S. Hill and Henry Hill are attending court this week in the capacities of jurymen. Darius Ives and family spent Saturday with the former's mother on Mason Hill. MissCallwell, ofSinnamahoning, spent Sunday with Flossie Johnson. G. S. Hill and family, of Grove Hill, called on relatives and friends in town Sunday. L. H. Smith is busy threshing his buckwheat this week. Wm. Kailbourn was a business caller in Sterling Run Saturday. Elmer Hill, of Grove Hill, was the guest of W. R. Smith Sunday. Lloyd Logue, of Renovo, is home on his vacation. Taking advantage of the beautiful day a number of our young people were seen promenading the boardwalk Sunday. Work on the new sewer between River Terrace and Jordan Avenue is at a stand still on account of the plumbers strike. Hiram S. Getchell is taking his vaca tion this week and is visiting Philadel phia, Atlantic City and Hyners Run. A letter received from the Bellevue-Strat ford this week reports him in good health and having a good time. Operator Cupp, of Renovo, is relieving him. A. W. Smith has accepted a position in the boiler shop at Renovo lor the P. R. R. Co., and will begin his duties Nov. Ist. Congratulations ( James Grugan from Olympia, Wash ington, who is a brother-in-law of B. J. Collins is visiting at the home of the latter this week. This is the first time he has visited this section in twenty years. County Supt. Mattie Collins and Mrs. James K. Jordan, of Emporium, and Gertie Fleming of Lock Haven, are also guests ot B. J. Collins and wife. Alice Jordan is visiting relatives in Castle Garden, W, R, J with was a busioess caller in Driftwood one day this week. Our genial mail messenger, Colonel J. M. English smilingly delivered the usual supply of edifying postal cards Saturday, from the dear friends (?) below, (as usual the Irish) had to take their i"egular dose. However, Assistant Postmaster, Thad Brooks, kindly erased the pencil work be fore mailing in order to spare our feelings, for which we extend thanks. Colonel English says that the route must be kept up regardless of any one's feelings and while he is very sorry for the PRESS cor respondent he is prepared to deliver any thing from a hair pin to a feather bed, as long as it is properly stamped. About 40 men are working on and near the site of the new stone crusher above Haynes Bros' place, and we under stand it will be crushing stone in a few weeks at farthest. Several of the men are boarding at W. W. Wykoff's at tbe Lushbach depot. A uuuiber of our citizens are attend ing court this week, Geo. Goss, Fred Caldwell, LeGrand Wykofl, Miles Smith and 11. M. Williams. Hot weather has delayed fall seeding and other farm operations though most of our farmers have their potatoes nearly all out of the ground.
