Mrs. Davis who has been ill for some time with
consumption, died at her home at Canoe Run
last Sunday.
Mrs. Harry Wilson ofCroyland, who has been j
visiting in town the past week, returned home

One day last week people around the station
were startled by sounds ol a desperate struggle
in the ticket office and upon investigation found
that llagiuan John Kepler had station agent
•Schneider tied hand and foot upon the floor and |
making all kinds of motions around Schneider's
head with a pair of sheep shears. At first it was
thought that violence waß intended but on in.
quiring it was found-that Kepner was trying to
cut the agent's hair. Strong hands disarmed
the desperate flagman and quiet was again re
stored without calling the.police. It is under
stood that the trouble started over a dispute
about the length that gentleman's liair should
be worn.

spending a few weeks with W. W. Johnson and
family.
Supt. Miss Mattie Collins, spent Sunday with
B. J. Collins and family.
Mrs. Emmeline Summerson of Wylie Hollow
and Miss Ruth Sullivan were Emporium visitors
Saturday.
Henry Layton and wife, who have resided in
Huntley for the past two years are moving to |
Watogo, W. Va., where they will conduct a
boarding honse for H. H. Cloyes.
We wish to correct the statement made in last |
week's PRESS regarding Darris Ives moving on |
the David Logue estate. Mr. Ives has moved |
into Levi Smith's tenement house on East River j
street and will continue to work at team work
this summer.
Mrs. Wm. Johnson continues about the same j
at this writing. Dr. Beale of Driftwood is at
tending her.

Bears are getting very numerous in this sec
tion. David Ives, while hauling ties in Big Run
Friday last, came upon an old bear and and two j
cubs, aside from making his horses jump a little
there seemed to bo no excitement.
A. Smith and Geo. Starr killed a rattler 011
Friday with 16 rattles on in Wylie Holiow. !
J. E. Johnsen of Sinnamahoning, transacted j
business in town Saturday.
Wesley Barr, of Tunnel Hill has a new Edison j
phonograph, which is one of the finest machines I
in the county. He has a full supply of up to date
records which are the delight of his friends for
miles around.
We are sorry to hear that Blanche, daughter
of Alex. Mason is very ill and will be taken to
the hospital this week for treatment. Her many
friends hope for her recovery.
Last Thursday evening Mrs. William Logue
had occasion to start a fire in.her hen house in
order to purify it from lice and in some way did
not get the fire put entirely out. Shortly after
building was found to be 011 tire and was entirely
oonsumed together with about seventy-five nice
chickens. When the fire was discovered it was
too late to put it out.
W. R. Smith was a business caller in Empori
um Saturday.
G. W. Starr called on friends in Sterling Run
Saturday.
A. W. Smith killed a fox Friday on the moun
tain and presented the hide at the Squires Office
where he made formal application for the
bounty.
The onion growing contest between Levi Smith
and John Jordan is getting interesting. Both
gentlemen are doing their best to win the prize
offered by W. R. Smith which consists of a full
treatment of Dr. Dunlaps Spring tonic, seven
bottles in all. At six o'clock Tuesday evening
Levt's onions were in blossom and John said his
would be in the same condition in the morning.
Major English, of the R. F. D. will act as Judge
and the contest will be watched with interest.
Elmer Hill and Clarence Johnson were Em
porium callers Sunday.
Monday evening about 7 p. m., a small gray
team belonging to Mr. Hayes, the liveryman, of
Emporium and driven by George Carter were'
frightened by a dog at the residence of Alex
Mason, and ran away. Mr. Carter was thrown
out of the wagon and the team rau down the
township road as far as Bquire Sullivan's hen
yard where they fell on their sides after becom.

J. Miller were upon the scene and soon had the
team on their feet and disentangled tlfe wire
from about them but C. J. Miller in trying to un
buckle a strap narrowly escaped being kicked in
the leg, so near, in fact that his trouser leg was
torn open at the knee. In about fifteen minute
after this Mr. Carter came down the road a.nyj'
took charge of the team. Mr. Carter was hurt
somewhat about the ribs and was attended by
Dr. Beale, of Driftwood, The team was not in.
jnred much outside of a few cuts about the legs
but the wagon was damaged a great deal, the en
tire being demolished. Mr. Carter was driving
a traveling man from Emporium to Sinnama
honing when accident occurred.
