Baker regret to learn that she is in a very critical condition at her home at Williamsport. Rev. Mr. Robertson. Rector of Em monuel Church is visiting at Punxsu tawney, Pa., this week. He will re turn in time for Sabbath services. Washington Mason, residing near Sterling Hun, celebrated his 81st birth day last Tuesday. Uncle Wash offers his farm for sale in this issue of PRESS. Mrs. Grant, of Erie, Pa., has been visiting her sister, Mrs R. P. Heiiman. at this place for several weeks. Mrs. Ileilman's health does not improve. Mr. A. C. Blum, Secretary of Key stone Powder Company, departed on Tuesday for unknown—to ye editor— parts. He is like the irishman's flea. Miss Claire Eddy and Miss Emma Seass, of Westport, visited friends in Emporium last week. Their parents will soon remove to the new brick works. Mr Josua Syke«, Keating Summit, and Mr. Frank. A. Sykes, of Galeton, were in Emporium last Monday. The getlemen made this office a very pleasant call. O. I). Miller, who had been laid up for some time with a dislocated shoul der, resumed his work on Allegheny Div. Pa., R. It., and last Saturday sprained his left ankle. MihsAnna Clesry, ono of the pop ular young ladies of Emporium, was the guest of her friend, Miss Mayme Walsh, in this place, over Sunday.— Johnsonburg Press. Word has been received from Mrs. Wm Snyder, who was taken to Buf falo Hospital last Monday, accom panied by Mrs. E. O. Bardwell, that she is getting along nieely and enter tains hope of recovery. Mrs. It. Eick, who has been visiting relatives and friends at Westfield, Pa., returned to Emporium yesterday. Her mother, Mrs. Rushmore, who accom panied her will remain there for some time. J. Vine Hanscom and Alex. De- Shetler, of Sinnamahoning, were in town last Saturday. They made the PRKSS sanctum a short call, accompan ied by Sheriff Hemphill, who had charge of them while in town. The Rev. J. F. Porter, engaged in misson work among colord people in Tampa, Florida, addressed the congre gation at the Lenten services in Em manuel chapel this afternoon. He will speak at Ridgway to-morrow evening. Miss Leona Coppersmith very pleas antly entertained twenty-three of her little friends, last Friday afternoon at her homo on Allegheny Avenue, the occasion being her seventh birthday. Miss Leona received many beautiful presents. Sheriff Hemphill entertained his white winged friends from Sinnama honing—J. V. Hanscom and Alec De- Shetler-last Saturday and accompanied them them to Buffalo Junction and put them on the 3:L'O train for Squire Blodgett's town. Jacob Huffman, for many years C. 15. Howard Company's old reliable delivery man, called on the PRE-S yesterday and after calling ye editor down it: his usual French style, plank ed down the long green for the PRE-S up to 1905. The Little Dutchman is all right, just tho same. 11. H. G'loyes retarded to-day from a business trip down east. Treasurer E. \V. Gaskill of Keystone Powder Company is ill with the grip M Blodget, of Sinnamahoning was in town today and tnade us a short call. The infant son of W. J. Leavitt is seriously ill with pneumonia, we are sorry to learn. Mr. ,T. IJ. Wheeler has been serious ly ill this week, threatened with pneu monia. lie is reported much better. Miss Elizabeth Ludlain is spending a week, at Cleveland, purchasing new spring styles for their Broad street store. Miss Mabel Hatderman the pleasant clerk at II A. Zirps' store, returned yesterday from a two weeks visit at Snow Shoe, Pa. Mrs. Albert Murry has been danger ously ill for several days, but at the hour of going to press is a little better. She is a very sick lady. Mrs H. W. Good went to Buffalo this morning to visit her husband, Dr. Good, who underwent an operation at that place a few days ago. For Sale or Rent. Sheriff Harry Hemphill recently pur chased the residence on East Fifth street known as the "John Norris homestead." Mr. Hemphill's term as Sheriff will expire next January and not desiring to be turned out in the cold world took time by the forelock, lie has proven himself a careful, com petent official and takes great pride in his work. He has not disappointed his friends, nor the general public. Horse Killed. A valuable horse, belonging to Wil liam Dixon was killed last Monday by jumping oft the bridge at the mouth of the hollow leading up to the Empori um Powder Works. Mr. Dixon is em- i ployed by the Emporium Powder j Company and used his team in con- ] nection with his work. The team j were frightened near the works and ; ran away resulting in the death of the j one horse. Not long ago Mr. Dixon j suffered the loss of a team which were killed on the Britton Hill road.
