Chief of Police Mundy has been laid up several days the past week suffer ing from rheumatism. J. L. Wheeler and family are moving from the C. B. Lias house to his own house. —Rural Valley Advance. Mrs. M. H. Dodge who has been quite ill the past week is able to be about again, we are pleased to note. Miss Hattie Evans who has been visiting her sistor at Punxsutawney for several weeks, has returned home. J. C. Lynch and family occupy one of the Hats in Odd Fellows block—Mr. Lynch being employed as operator at junction. Mr. and Mrs. R. D. Branson, of Du Bois are visiting with Mrs. Branson's parents A. A. McDonald and family at this place. Mrs. Gombert and daughter of Brooklyn, N. Y., who were visiting Chas. Specht and family <wi Bryan Hill left for their home on Monday. Vernon Heilman of Portland Mills, Pa., was in town over Sunday to see his cousin from Montgomery. Both returned to their work Monday. Miss Jean McNarney, one of the most charming young ladies in Em porium, returned last Friday from a delightful visit at Buffalo and other points. Mrs. Harry Ness, of Allegheny, Pa., and Mrs. David Wiel and son of Buf falo, visited friends in town over Sun day, guests of their brother R. H. Hirsch and family. F. B. Housler.who has been employ ed in Cambria county for some time, came here last week threatened with typhoid fever. He is much better at this writing and will return in a few days. Miss Hattie Russell has acccepted a school in McKean county and has left for that point. Mrs. E. I. Smith will take care of her mother, Mrs. Russell, who is seriously ill, during the term of school. Boyde Bloom, a brakeman, in P. & E R R., yard at this place, was thrown from a car one day last week, sustain serious injuries. He is improving at present and it is hoped he will soon be at his post of duty again. S. J. Fee left on Monday for Chi cago, where he conducts business dur ing the winter. Mr. Fee has been sell ing fruit and produce in Emporium for the past twelve or fifteen years and has a host of warm friends here who are always pleased to see him return each spring. His business here during the past summer has been most suc cessfull, we are glad to note. Mr. and Mrs. B Raphel, of Syracuse, N. Y., whose wedding Mr. Jasper Harris attended recently, Miss Esther Soronson, of Buffalo, N. Y., and Mrs. J. M. Harris, of Olean, N. Y., arrived in town last Thursday evening and re mained until Friday noon, when they left on Flyer for their respective homes. Hirsch left on Tuesday to take in the Democratic State convention held at Harrisburg this week. D. H. Lamb and wife, of Galeton, are expected in Emporium this week, as guests of C. J. Goodnough and wife. Parker Jackson, the silver tongued porter at Warner House, we regret to learn, is confined to his bed with.rlieu matism. Mrs. William Howard and Miss Ada Hockley, who were visiting in town last week returned to Williamsport on Saturday. Prothonotary Goodnough, Wm. Mc- Donald and family and a number of other citizens are doing the Toronto Fair this week. James L. Norie loaves on Saturday for Westboro, Wis., to spend his vaca tion of two or three weeks, returning home with his wife and child. Mrs. Geo. Bloom, of Williamsport was called here on Tuesday on account of the serious illness of her son Boyd, who was injured in P. & E. yard last week. Mr. James Fisher, of Washington, D. C., accompanied by his sister Miss Mary, of Plumville, Pa., are visiting their brothers J. A. and Chas. at this place. W. J. McLees, the old reliable phar macist, has returned to this city from Pittsburg, and will hereafter be found filling prescriptions at the Clinton Pharmacy.—Lock Haven Democrat. Miss Ida Dransfield, one of the Cli max Powder Company clerks, left yes terday on a two weeks' visit to her home at Bristol, W. Va., stopping at Pittsburg to spend a few days with friends. O. B. Tanner, of Mason Hill, while making a business visit to Emporium yesterday was a PRESS visitor and carried away a receipt for another year's PRESS. Mr. Tanner is not grow ing any smaller and is just as jolly as ever. Dr. Rieck and family are moving into "Newton Terrace," which the Dr. recently purchased from Mrs. Newton. When the needed repairs and improve ments contemplated are completed he will have one of the most beautiful homes in the county. Master Warner and Miss Marian Judd of Emporium were guests of W. S. Walker and family last week, and a reception was tendered the little folks at Mr. Walkers home Saturday even ing, which was enjoyed by a large party. —Austin Autograph. Misses Elizabeth and Julia Schriever returned Saturday from a three month's trip through the principal countries of Europe. The many friends of the Misses Schriever will be pleased to learn that the health of both young ladies is greatly benefitted. —Kane Republican. Mrs. D. W. Keyes is visiting her friends at Hornellsville, N. Y., for a few weeks, and during her absence Mr. Keyes is kept busy looking after household duties, but he is equal to the emergency, having made sure that the household department of the PRESS visits his residence weekly. H. A. Cox, Esq., Philadelphia sales agent for C. B. Howard Company, lumber manufactures, of Emporium, was in town last Saturday visiting 010 friends and transacting business. Mr. Cox called on the PRESS and changed the date to 1904. Mr. Cox is a very successful agent and enjoys a very large patronage. Mrs. O. B. Scheu, of Buffalo, N. Y., who has been visiting at the Wiley residence during the past two weeks, was taken to her home at Buffalo last Saturday quite seriously ill. Last Monday her condition became quite alarming and Dr. Smith was tele graphed to come to Buffalo, quite a compliment to pay to a country doctor. L. E. Taylor, of Almorgo, New Mexico,was a PRESS visitor yesterday, accompanied by our old friend Dan'l j Webster. Mr. Taylor went to New Mexico about four years ago in the employ of Lackawanna Lumber Co., and now has charge of the railroad operated by the same company. Mr. Taylor and wife started for the east almost six weeks ago to visit Mr. and Mrs. Webster, when his wife was taken ill with rheumatism and entered a hos pital in Old Mexico. The log train will be done hauling logs from up the Fork in about a week, then the train will goto Wyside and the engine will goto Shrade Creek, Laquin. Bradford county. Joe Drum who has been doing carpen ter work for Barclay Bros, at this place has accepted a position at Laquin, Brad ford county. He left Monday and his family will follow this fall. J. R. Batchelder went to state camp of the I*. O. S. of A., held at Lancaster, Pa., as a delegate from camp 136, of this place. He reports a good time and seeing a large gathering of the order. Flr»tFork. Two weeks ago last Saturday the peo ple interested in the Gilmore Cemetery at this place turned out and fixed up the grounds, and last Saturday built a new fence around the grounds. If it ever gets dry enough so it can be painted it will add a good deal to the looks of the cemetery. We hear that Mr. Brobsthas "jumped the job" at the shingle mill, and the sons of the proprietor, Mr. Trumbowler, are going to run the business now. At a box social at Miller school house on Saturday evening, 836 was raised to apply to the purchase of an organ. A special train was run from First Fork and Lushbaugh and Sinnamahoning band was on hand to help on the cause. Potato rot has commenced in some fields on account of the wet weather, and farmers who are behind with their oat harvest look pretty blue, After visiting friends here for a week Mrs. A. E. Woodard and daughter re turned Saturday, to their home in Sala manca, N. Y.
