Now that the election is over we trust the weather will change. t I Cleveland has a touch of the poli tical fever. He says the Democra tic opportunity has arrived. The meat combine is still combin ing and indications are that it will include all kinds of foodstuffs. t J After the politicians got through, the tax payers and citizens came forward and played the winning cards in the political game. t t Cold weather has apparently been awaiting the settlement of the coal strike. Will someone notify November that it is over. t t ■f + The government has just with drawn from public entry (>,000,000 more acres of public land in Cali fornia, in different tracts, and forest reserves will probably be created. X + I'he arbitration commission has made a very thorough investigation of the coal miners, and now the miners are wondering what the har vest will be. t t English army statistics show that out of every 100 bullets which hit soldiers in war, 139 will lodge in the legs, 30 in the arms, 20 in the trunk of the body, 1 in the neck and 10 in the head, on the average. ♦ + ■f -f We are now in the Thanksgiving month. What have you had or what have you got to be thankful for? Every person certainly has something for which to offer thanks. t J And now the American people are grumbling because it is propos ed to take the duty off of foreign coal. They say that it is not near ly so go.jd as the American fuel. : t One of our exchanges says: "Miss A una Dann, for years pri vate seer clary to Miss Susan B. In the trial of the Molin eaux case the prosecution had hand v. riting experts to prove that Molin euix did addre-s and write certain 1 iters, and the defense had an equal number of experts to prove that he did not write them, lioth n ; des have proved thai they were ri'dit, According to figures recently ! compiled, the death rate in Ireland j is considerably in excels of that of other countries in the United King dom and on the continent. The figures show that the death rate in Belfast is 21.3 per thousand, in Waterford 21.1) in Londonderry 22.0 in Cork and Limerick 24.3, and in Dublin 29.5. On this show ing, Dublin, a city of less than 400,- 000 inhabitants, has a much higher death rate than any city in the United States with a population in excess of 100,000. In fact, the only two cities of this size in the United States to approach the figures of Dublin are New Orleans, with a death rate of 28.5) per thousand, and Memphis, with a death rate of 25.1 per thousand. lion. S. R. Dresser, by his mag nificent run for Congress in a new district, earring every county there in, even Center county, which is generally counted in the Democratic column, has put himself in line for governor of the state. It will be a western man next time and Brad ford would be eligible, geographi cally. Mr. Dresser would make a capable and winning candidate. — Bradford Star. The Elk county Republicans had two gentleman by the name of Blank on their ticket. It is needless to say that they were both overwhelm ingly defeated. According to the news that comes from that end of this judicial district the breed of Republicans are not so much noted for still wart ism as they might be. The instances referred to above are those of two Republicans who flunk ed off the ticket when it was no longer possible to get the vacancies filled.
