Cuba is fast adopting American ways. They had a snow storm there last week. It's a pity that Teddy didn't take a vitascope man along. He could have retired for life 011 the royalties. Now that all the table condi ments are being recommended as cures for something or other, why should the spicy pumpkin pie be passed over? An open winter is a very pleas ant thing, in its way, but if it comes bearing the grippe in its arms, it will not be so appreciated as it has been. The shipping bill has again been made unfinished business in the Senate and will be pushed. Unless the Democrats filibuster, Pettigrew and his one or two accomplices will not be able to prevent a vote upon it. It is greatly to be feared that the death of Queen Victoria will kill the Nicaraguan canal bill until next session. Great Britian will prob ably be too busy to attend to the treaty until after it is too late for Congress to act 011 the bill. Queen Victoria did not break the record for long reigus, as is generally stated. Louis XIV reigned 72 years in France. Even deducting his minority, while his mother was regent, he reigned two years longer than Victoria. Director Roberts of the Mint, advocates the coinage of all the silver bullion and the silver dollars owned by the government into sil ver small change. He says that the country cannot get enough of it. Western Populists in several states have merged themselves for mally into the Democratic party, thus returning the compliment of Democracy when they merged themselves into populism some years ago. The Democrats are trying to find out which is the better Democrat; a man whom they have twice nomi nated and elected to office, or a man whom they have twice nominated and seen defeated for the same office. People who think that the French duel is altogether a joke, should read of the wound received by the Jew baiter, Count de Lubersac, whose arm was pierced from elbow to armpit by his antagonist's sword. He will be crippled for life. Edward VII will have a much harder proposition to face than his mother had. The Kaiser, for in stance, was far more considerate of the wishes of his grandmother than he is likely to be of those of his cousin. And so with other mon arclis. The Kansas saloon question is adding greatly to the joy of the nation. Saloons are absolutely forbidden in Kansas but flourish exceedingly, nevertheless. Mrs. Nation has accordingly taken the law into her own hannds and pro poses to break up both the system and the saloon. Good luck to her. ALL SORTS. The most soothing, healing and anti septic- application ever devised is DeWitt's Witch Ilazel Salve. It relieves at once and cures piles, sores, eczema and skin diseases. Beware of imitations. It. C. We would suggest that One Minute Cough Cure be taken as soon as indications of having taken cold are noticed. It cures quickly and its early use prevents con sumption. R. C. Dodson. Sly The growth of grass that comes in a long, mild, moderately rainy autumn is said to be far more nutritious for cattle than the spring grass. It is richer. Many a bright and happy household has been thrown into sadness and sorrow because of the death of a loved one from a neglected cold. BALLARD'S HOIIE HOUND SYRUP is the great cure for coughs, colds and all pulmonary ailments. Price 25 and 50 cents. L. Taggart. Jan Vermont continues to be a rural State. It is the only State in the north that docs not contain a city with a population of 25,000 or more. Price 50 cents. L. Taggart. Jan The city of Bern, Switzerland, is mak ing the socialistic experiment of building free—or practically free—workshops for artisans. Many of the blotches, pimples and other affections of the skin are caused by the failure of the liver and kidneys to cast off impurities, which remain in the system. HERBINE will stimulate the liver and kidneys, and cleanse the system of all impurities. Price 50 cents. L. Tag gart. Jan According to the theory of hazing, West Point is bound to take in a large stock of conceit with the next plebe class. Quality and not quantity makes De- Witt's Little Early Risers such valuable little liver pills. R. C. Dodson. Sly The plan to enlist several regiments of Filipino troops will offer Auguinaldo a chance to get on the pay-roll again. Whosoever has suffered from piles knows how painful and troublesome thev are. Such little pills as DeWitt's Little Early Risers are very easily taken, and they are wonderfully effective in cleansing the liver and bowels. R. C. Dodson. 81y It appears that some of the Indians of Indian Territory have also heard of the consent of the governed idea.
