The following is an illus tration of the thousand schemes resorted to by the 'insurrectionists in order to gain information, during the time the conflict lasted, of the operations in progress against them in the parts of the capital not disaffected. All this was .of immense importance in directing their movements:— Bound heart and soul , to the fortunes and persim of ono of the lenders of the insurgents was a young and intelligent girl, whose resources in the way of procuring and transmitting intelligence were inex haustible and never failed her. At one time, when IV:oin° of communication of the revolutionists had been cut by the capture of Gite, rind, when it was snore important than ever to open a correspondence 'between the isolated parties .still contending, the girl carried a letter safely through a score of lines of sentinels ! , although closely searched by all of them, And hew? She tore the letter the leader of one extremity of the line had just written into bits, and crumpling them up worked them into her hair hastily as hair papers! The ruse succeeded—she was not suspected. In a disguise admirably adapt ed to the part, she on auotheroccasion accompanied a poor old blind flav, eolot player entirely through the 'lines which guarded every street, and pretending she was taking the mendicant to his - lodgings, sue -ceeded, by secreting a letter in his flagoelet, in car rying through intelligence of direst import. - - Goon.—Wo - know of a couple, "net a hundred mites front the capital rdllcresierdom, who carried on their cSurtship in rather a :novel manner.
