Injunction etc. . Deer in Large Herds Among Farmers. For the first time in perhaps half a century, deer are so numerous in the South Mountains of Adams, Franklin and Cumberland counties that they have become an absolute pest to farmers on the slope of that range of the Blue Mountains. For two weeks they have appeared in herds after night-fall on farms along the border. So bold has one herd of at least thirty become that on Saturday night twenty-five acres of wheat on the estate of Jacob Ed wards, near the Narrows, north of Arendtsvillc, Adams county, was destroyed. This wheat field is within a stone's throw of the build ings on the Kd wards farm. At the farm of Alburtus Coles, near Trust Postoffice, Adams county, fourteen deer leisurely strolled down the Shippensburg road in broad daylight on Sunday. Other farmers in clearings higher up in the mountains have been obliged to rig up scarecrows, and at regular intervals fire gnus to keep deer away from their prem ises. One man keeps his dogs leashed in his fields at night in or der that their barking might fright en deer away. The agitation for better wages for teachers has reached our nation al capital. In the a guuient in Congress on the district appropria tion bill, it was pointed out that the educational interests were not properly cared for, and that the pay of the teachers was entirely too low. Champe Clark, of Miss ouri, said that "more money was being paid Washington policemen to crack the skulls of the people than was paid to school teacher s to improve what was in the skulls."
