D. G. Hackitt. Superintendent. Parish Honso Supper- A supper will be served in the Parish House on Saturday evening of this week, by St. Margaret's Guild. The usual price, 15 cents, and extra for ice cream and cake, will be charged. The excellence of these suppers is well known, and the usual large attendance is look ed for. Though the price is low, the supper is not too cheap to be good. The meal will be ready at 5 o'clock, and will continue so long as there is anybody to buy, provid ed there is anything left to sell. Thursday was the largest attend ance the Hughesville tair Has ever had. There were 10,000 people on the ground. Mrs. Abbie Barnes, wife of Zeba Barnes, aged about sixty two years died at her nome at East Blooms burg on Thurs lay of last week. She is survived by a husband and three children. A. L. Jacobs, for many years in the employ of the Hawley Slaie Furniture Co., has severed his cou nectiou with the company. He will spend a good portion of the winter in the South. For hunting and killing a squirrel on Sunday J. K. and Leon Goss of Fairmount township were arrested given a hearing and fined $35 each. The arrests were made at the Ins tance of the Luzerne County Sports men's Club. Some evil minded person cut the wire on the Catawissa bridge Sun day evening and the bridge was in darkness during the night. There is an uncomfortable punishment for an offense of this sort, and it is to be regretted that the vandal is not known. Bessie Jacoby won the gold watch offered by W. S. Rishtou to the. person turning in the. largest number of golf and cherry kola tickets, one of which was given with every glass of either flavor. Miss Jacoby had 704 tickets. Two burglars made an attempt to rob the Carpet Mill about ten o'clock Sunday night. They were first discovered at the dye house by night watchman Moses Tressler, who fired two shots at them. A proclamation was issued by Superintendent of Public Instructing Schaeffer last Thursday designated Friday, October 16, 1903, as autumn arbor day, and asking school superintendents, teachers and pupils to observe the day by the planting of trees and by other suitable exercises. Our building has its own plant which was entirely over hauled during the summer. It had been in operation for twenty years and required twenty-eight new flues in the boiler.
