Yorks has purchased the old Presbyterian Church property on Market street is a source of much gratification to all residents in that section. This property has been an eyesore ever siuce its abandonment as a church. Its sidewalks have been uu- shovelled in winter and the weeds and lawn have been untouched in summer except when some neigh bor has had the rank growth cut in self-protection. Palm leaf fans, ones that you had to hold together to use were sold for ten cents, lemonade, one lemon to a gallon, for ten cents a glass, pea nuts, twenty-one in a bag, for five cents; fifty cents for a reserved seat and ten cents extra for a cush ion. In one instance, a gentleman gave an usher a two dollar bill tell ing him to take the price of a cush ion out of it. They were present from all over the surrouud ing country, for a radius of fifteen miles. One gentleman, pretty weil on m y?ars, who has lived in the little village all his life, while el bowing his way through the crowd was heard to exclaim, ' this beat all I ever saw for a festival," and he probably told the truth. The Bloomsburg Band went up on special train and returned about twelve o'clock. The new leader C. Calhoun, directed the band for the first time, and there was marked improvement.
