There is much in reputation. There is someining in a name, just let a lecturer or a preacher get a name, and though his lectures or discourses are not striking, yet the ctowds will come, drawn not always by the real merit of the speaker nor the excellence of the service so much as bv the gravitation toward a name and the force of example in others. Let a town become noted for push, energy and progress a place where living is good, work plenty and wages satisfactory and people will drift there and if that town rises up to meet the claims by it and upon it the future of that place is settled. It is not many years since York was an unimportant town in the Key stone State. It had upon it the incubus ot non progressive people within and around it. Yet today it is emerging from every condition and appearance of fossilization and is taking its place among the noted cities of our commonwealth. It is situated beyond the last range of the Alleghany system; consequently the region about it is a vast plain of ex cellent farming land. You may stand upon high ground near it and gaze upon the scene, the mountains lie like a blue border upon a beautiful fabric woven with nature's inimitable skill. Nearer wc behold the wavina outline of the undulating hills cleft to their base just before our eyes by the gorge which allows the Codorus Creek to pass through there or. its winding way to the broad Susquehanna which sweeps down to the bay almost at the foot of yonder knob which marks the terminus of this range of hills to eastward. Right at our feet occupying many square miles of this beautiful, fertile territory lies tiie city with its many spires marking the existence of the churches, telling their story of the worship of God and the setting forth of the principles which underlie the the greatest sufferers. Fine school houses, well paved streets, lanje reservoirs and elegant residences show that the people are reaching out after true conditions with a commendable public spirit.
