Mr. and Mrs. Eugene Chrisman, are mourning the loss of an infant son. Death occurred Sunday after noon, at their home in Fernville. The child was nearly two years of age. The steeple of the Lutheran Church, at Millville, was struck by lightning during a storm on Thurs day afternoon of last week. The top was torn off, the siding dam aged and many of the windows were broken. J. C. Leidy, of Harrisburg; has been elected a delegate to the National Convention of Railway Clerks. Mr. Lejdy handles mail between New York and Pittsburg. He is well known and has many friends in Blcomsburg. Samuel Miller died at his home in Mt. Carmel Saturday. He was aged nearly seventy years, and is survived by a wife and five children, two of the latter being Mrs. Clara Johnson, of Mifflinville, and Jacob and Elwood ol Roanngcreek. Preparations for a big time in the shape of a festival are being made by the new Orangeville Band. Music will be furnished by the Bloomsburg Band and the B. & S. will run a special train, charging only thirty cents for round trip. The boys say the event is to be the daddy of 'em all." Percy Currin, son of ReV. W. G. Currin a former pastor of the Evan gelical church, of Bloomsburg, and Lawrence Clewell, have formed a partnership and purchased Dr. G. L. Reagan's drug store at Berwick. Mr. Currin served an apprentice ship with J. II. Mercer of town. For the past two years he has been filling a responsible position in a large drug store in Williamsport. M. P. Lutz and Son have taken the agency for the Great Eastern Casualty aud Insurance Company of New York. This company in sures against accidents, twenty dollars a year giving a maximum of twelve thousand dollars and a weekly benefit of fifty-five dollars. Policies are sold for smaller amounts. Johnson is in town to day receiving congratulations from friends on his marriage to Mrs. Emma J. Frack, which occurred at Reading on the 14th inst. The event was kept quiet and the announce ment which reached town only a day or two ago, was a surprise to the friends of the bride and groom. The bride is the widow of the late Alfred Frack and a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Samuel Shaffer of Third street. They will make their home in Reading. . The bite of an insect, known as "snake feeder," caused the death of Victor Williams, aged ten years, at his home in Nescopeck Saturday. He was biten one day last week, but paid little heed to it until blood poisoning developed and it was too late to save his life. He was a son ot Milton Williams. Fornwald, of West street, will be glad to hear that he has entirely recovered from his recent illness, and has left the hospital in San Fraucisco, and is now, or in a few days will be with his Battery at Fort Van Couver, Washington. His term of enlistment will expire in November, when he is expected home. Tha New Kngland Bloomer Girls, demonstrated their skill at the art of playing base ball, at Athletic Park Tuesday afternoon. Opposed to them was a picked nine of young men of town. The contest, or prol; ably more properly the exhibition" was looked at by an audience, count ing those that climbed trees, -and looked over the feuce, numbering about four hundred. The organiza tion had been extensively advertised and it was thought by many that the game wou.d be worth going to see. But not so. It was simply a wild and dazzling exhibition of h nv the National game can be distorted beyond the faintest possibility of identification. During the long drawn out nine Innings, some ct the girls injured the ground, and dirtied their costumes by picturesque slides. Everybody appeared to have an elegant sufficiency, before the two first innings had been played. The score is said to have been 9 to 8 in favor of the girls.
