The first annual dance of Schwarz's orchestra is to be held in Dentler's Hall to-night. Quite a lot of invitations have been issued and the young men are anticipating an enjoyable evening. The regular monthly meeting of the Bloomsburg Town Council was not held Thursday night of last weeic, owing to the fact' that there was not a quorum present. The meeting will be held to night. The annual examination will be gin at the Normal School Tuesday, June nth, at 9 a. m. All aopli- cants must be present at 9 a. m. on rriday, the 7th, to take the prelim inary examinations under the fac ulty. At a meeting of the Board of Trustees of the Normal School last Saturday evening for organization, the following officers were elected: A. JZ. Schoch, President, J. C. Brown, Vice President. J. M. Clark, secretary, H. J. Clark, treasurer. W. C. Fortune, of West Main Street, received a very acceptable gift in the shape of a brook trout measuring over sixteen inches, from Michael Hess, of Stillwater. It was caught a short distance above the bridge spanniug Fishingcreek, at Stillwater, and was the finest specimen captured in that vicinity this season. 'Squire Jacoby on Friday reprim anded four youngsters who were arraigned before him for stoning to death a Pekin drake belonging to Henry Dieffenbach. The boys were brought to the Justice's office by Constable Betz. They appeared quite remorseful, and were allowed to go lrce. Owing to the illness of Fred Ike ler, Esq., the case of Summers vs. B. & S. R. R. Co., which was the fin t on the trial list, was continued, and as 110 other cases were ready for trial on Monday, the jurors were discharged for the term, and court adjourned until Wednesday. The offices of the Bloomsburg Water Company have been moved to the rooms formerly occupied by Grant Herring Esq. They have been newly papered and painted, and provided with new furniture The new offices are much more com modious and pleasant than the old ones. Normal won the debate from Bucknell in the Auditorium Satur day. The subject, "Resolved that the Railroads of the United States should be owned by the Govern ment," was ably handled. The judges were : Prof. Consor, Sun. bury; Prof. Harman, Hazleton; and II. A. McKilhp, Esq., ol town. r ' The great Wallace show will be here next Tuesday. Excursion trains on the Bloomsburg and Sul livan Railroad will enable the peo ple of the upper end of the county to witness the performances. It will be the only really big circus to exhibit in Bloomsburg this season. The free street parade is said to be a great feature. The piano and voi:e recital given by Miss Grace Ilousel and Miss Blanche Letson at the Normal on Wednesday evening, was well at tended and greatly enjoyed. The program included musical selections of a high order, and those who were present speak in terms of the high est praise of the excellent perform ances of these young ladies. Yesterday was pay day at the Silk Mill, Woolen Mill, Blooms burg Car Mfg. Co., Hawley-Slate Furniture Factory and the Desk Factory. The amount disbursed is said to aggregate over $20,000.00. The amount paid out by the Silk Mill alone was about $9, 000.00. This, we are informed, is the larg est in the history of the plant. A new system of management is soon to go into effect with the United Telephone and Telegraph Company. The change will be gratifying to Mr. Geo. B. Wright, the manager of the local exchange of the Montour and Columbia lines. Under the new regime he will have headquarters at Suubury, and will be the General Superintendent of all the company s lines from William sport to Pottsville. You know all about it.
