Buchanan, whose myster ious disappearance from Centralia a year ago caused excitement, re turned home last week from Los Angeles, Cal. His friends feared he liad been foully dealt with. Excitement ran high at the Sal vation Army headquarters Sunday evening. While the services were in progress, some evil hearted young men blew smoke through pipe stems in one of the Ircn street windows. The stove was pretty warm at the time, and a woman, observing the smoke, which was quite heavy, and not thinking of what an alarm of fire would result in at such a time, the room crowded as it was, shrieked "the building is on fire." Suddenly the big audi ence was on its feet, all rushing toward the only exit, the front door. In the scramble, one woman fainted, and several others were thrown down. Fortunately no serious accidents occurred. The consequence of their act penetrated the skulls of the perpetrators in stantly, and they succeeded in ge: titifc away. If they are found out arrests are likely to follow. A SEW ENTERPRISE. Capt. J. B. Robison has brought us some fine specimens of lime that he is burning in Center twp., a short distance below the Ikeler farm and just back of Dr. Gardner's farm. Finer lime we have never fleen and it reflects credit not only upon Mr. Robison s enterprise, but, also, upon his burner, Mr. Henry Somers. Mr. Somers has worked in the lime busi ness all his life, both in Columbia and Northumberland counties, especially at Turbotville, where he burned lime for many years. He worked a great deal alongside of that well known old burner Henry Whitenight. Uoth of them are well up in years but the evidence before us shows that Mr. Somers is still an active man who has not forgotten his well learned trade. We appreciate the lime, not because we or anyone connected with the Columbian need white washing, but because we see before us something to show that the mineral wealth of Columbia County is fitiil abundant and that there is enterprise here to develop it. The tract opened by Mr Robison proves to contain one of the finest deposits of first class limestone in the region. It is certainly at pres ent the largest. He should receive good patronage, and we wish him success. Married in New York. It will, no doubt, be a surprise to the many friecds of Miss Vida Bowman. to learn of her wedding, which occurred immediately after her arrival in New York from Italy, where she had been since last summer, taking a course in vocal music. We extract the follow ing account from the Wilkes-Barre Record: Cards have been sent out announc ing the marriage of Representative Philip L. Drum, of the Sixth district, to Miss Vida liowman,of Bloomsburg, on Dec. 20, in New York Citv. She is a niece of Dr. Welsh ot the Blooms burg Normal School and also of our townsman, Arch. Patterson. She has been studying vocal music in Florence, Italy, for several months and recently returned to America, Mr. Drum was in New York when the vessel bearing her arrived and the ceremony was performed at the residence of the bride's uncle shortly afterwards. Mr. and Mrs. Drum will be at Harnsburg during the sess. ion of the legislature. Since Mr. Drum has his law office in the Coal Exchange building and desires to be there after each week's adjournment, they will likely spend Sundays in Wilkes-Barre. Poor Directors Meet. The Directors of the Bloom Poor District held their annual meeting Monday afternoon. There were some reductions made in the salaries. The meeting adjourned with the election of the following officers: President, Isa iah Haeenbuchs Solicitor. W. C. Johnston; Treasurer, William K. Hartman; Secretary, Freeze Quick: Stewart and Matron, Peter A. Kline and wife. The nhvsicians selected for the various districts were : Bloom, T. C. Harter; Millville, and West Greenwood, E. I. W. KARTHAN & SON, BLOOMSBURG. PA. Bendered Senseless by a Fall on the Ice- The dam, out beyond Iron Dale, was covtred with a fine flooring ot ice on Monday, and hundreds of young people journeyed out to enjoy a glide over its smooth surface. In the afternoon the Normal School students were out in large numbers. All appeared to be enjoying the sport to the fullest extent, when it was re ported that a young lady had fallen and was in a dying condition. The rumor was passed from one to anothtr and the skaters congregated to learn the extent of the young lady's injuries. A cursory examination revealed the fact that she bad fallen, her head striking violently against the ice. She was removed to the bank and a caD ordered to convey her to the school. Her name is Miss Ruth C. Kitmer. She resides at Renovo, Pa. It was feared at first that the skull had been fractured, but it was later learned that such was not the case. She regained consciousness shortly after arriving at the school. Nat Mire , Babies and children need proper food, rarely ever medi cine. If they do not thrive on their food something is wrong.
