It was just two vears ago last Thursday that the Battleship was blown up in Havana Harbor. Spain has lost several battleships since that time. The noou train sonth on the D L. & W. Railroad was delayed nearly two hours on Sunday by the break down of a locomotive at Shickshinuy. The Salvation Army is growing in numbers. The street parades and ooen air meetines attract eood sized crowds to Market Square in A 4 me evenings. Trains on the Bloomsburg and Sullivan Railroad were delayed several hours on I-nday by a slight wreck near Stillwater. No serious damage was done. Miles Smith has leased, and will take charge March 5th, of the Shu man hotel at Alainrille. He lor merly conducted the Fanners' Ho tel on Iron street. A surprise party was tendered Horace Brown at his home near Van Camp, Saturday evening, Feb ruary 10th. The evening was spent in a pleasant manner. Henry Humel, we understand intends to pursue laming the com ing summer. He will move on the Henry Kelchner farm about a half mile below Stillwater. Dr. C. II. Reynolds has closed his dental office in Catavvissa. Dr. L. K. Cleaver, who has been in charge of the office will assist Dr. Reynolds in the Danville office. Anthony Conroy, of Centralia, was tried in Court at Sunbury for an attempted outrage on a girl of the latter place. He was adjudged insane and taken to the Danville Asylum. The Danville basket ball team claims the championship of Central Pennsylvania. The teams victories have been many and pronounced since last fall. C. P. Hancock is the manager. William F. McMichael of Wil liamsport, the bicyclist, who has probably won as many first prizes during the. past three seasons as any rider in the state, was in town on Monday. Theata Castle No. 276, Knights of the Golden Ivagle will have a social entertainment for members and their friends Friday evening of next week. A very nice program has been arranged. The engineer corps has completed the preliminary survey for the trol ley line from Danville to Berwick. The corps numbered about ten men and was under the direction of James C. Brown. The Montour and Columbia Tele phone Co. is placing instruments in many business places in town. Con nections will be made as soon as the wires are strung which will proba bly be in a month or so. The Bloomsburg Fire Department attended divine service in a body at the Methodist Church Sunday even ing. The sermon was delivered by Rev. B. C. Conner, and pleased and instructed all who heard it. The Lenten season, commemora tive of Christ's forty-days' fast in the desert, will begin on Wednes day of next week, the 28th. Vol untary self denial will be the rule with the devout until Kaster day. William Hoffman, a brakeman, had his arm crushed to such an ex tent last week at Reading, that amputation was necessary. The arm was severed near the shoulder. He was a Centralia boy, and has piany friends in that town. Samantha K. Suit has been granted a subpoena in divorce against her husband, J. W. Suli, on grounds of desertion. They were married in Berwick six teen years ago. The desertion is alleged to have occurred last June. Work on the building owned by Mrs. M. E. Eut, is progressing quite r ipidly . The entire front and side of the second story have been torn away. The building will pre sent an imposing appearance when completed. We learn Irom the Mt. Carmel Star, that John Lazarus of that town, who was a few weeks ago thrown from a wagon and quite badly hurt, has fully recovered, and is again out and attending to his business. Miss Ella Williams, chief oper ator at the Central Pennsylvania Telephone at Berwick slipped and fell down a flight of stairs early Monday morning, incapacitating her lrom work. Miss Williams has many friends in town who will be sorry to hear of her misfortune. Several of our more sportive in clined colored residents, are arrang ing for a grand cake walk, to be held here in the very near future. The champion faucy steppers of several adjoining states are expect ed to be present and contest for the prizes. The affair is in charge of Frank Parks. The handicap pool tournament of the Bloomsburg Wheelmen is gradually drawing to its close. It would probably have been finished before this, had it not been for the absence from home of Harry Achen bach, one of the contestants. We may be able to name the winner in our next issue. The Electric Light Co. has pur chased a new 60 kilo-watt genera tor, capable of supplying 1200 six-teen-candle power lamps. This was bought for the purpose of an ticipating any trouble which might occur by reason of an accident to any of the other dynamos. The Company seems to be doing all in its power to give satisfaction to its patrons. Five years is a good while we know, and in that time some may move and some pass over to the great beyond, but the Farm Journal will come just the same to everyone who takes advantage ol the club bing offer which the Columbian has with its publishers. William Printz, formerly of town, now of Danville, barely escaped death at one of the mills in Dan ville a lew days since. He was struck 011 the head by a large bulet of steel, but a thick cap he was wearing broke the force to some extent and he was only rendered unconscious. Another Columbia Countian, who comes in for some distinction for longevity is Kester Parker of Greenwood. His eightieth birth day was recently celebrated at the home of his son E. E. Parker, bv a number of relatives and friends. Mr. Parker possesses all his facul ties and is unusually well preserved for one of his age. The Winona Fire Company has decided to reproduce "Tony, the Convict," in the Opera House one night, March 15. This will afford those who could not shape their af fairs to be present before, an oppor tunity to see it. In connection with the drama, "The Girl I Loved in Sunny Tennessee," a recent hit in the popular song line, will be illus trated with 20 beautifully colored pictures.
