McHenry has brought suit against the county to recover $1044.00 for board of prisoners from April 30 1896 to January 1, 1897, at 45 cents a day. He was paid at that rate to April 30, 1896, but an appeal was taken and the old board refused to pay him more than 25 cents after that date. The county auditors the recent settlement suscharged the old board of commissioners with $187.00. the excess paid the sheriff from January 1 to April 30, 1896 and the old board gave notice to t.ie present board to withhold $553 from the sheriff to protect themselves, this being the amount of excess paid .or 1895 and 1896. V. West, on Wednesday night at 1 1 o'clock, aged 80 years, 2 months and 4 days. He practiced law in Woodbury N. T. for about forty years, and retired from business about ten years ago, and since then he has resided in Philadel phia up to two years ago, when he came to Bloomsburg. His wife died in 1880, and his daughter Mrs. West, died here last March. His other sur viving children are Mrs. L. W. Batten and Mrs. E. H. Nash of Philadelphia, Miss M. A. Ware of this town, J. C, Ware of Wilmington, Del. They were all present before their father s death, The funeral services will be held on Saturday at a 30, at Clarksboro, N. J and the remains will be taken from here on Friday. There will be no services here. The Philadelphia Times is offering a library to the three educational ins titutions in the state receiving the highest number of votes on coupons printed daily in that paper.
