THE COLUMBIAN, BLOOM8BURG, PA. THE COLUMBIAN. BLOOMSBURG, PA. KEV. EDWAED M- WARDIN. The Evening Express of Carthage, Missouri, of December jjth contained the following sketch of Rev. Edward M Wardin, whose death was an nounced last week ! "Rev. Edward M. Wardin died at his home in this city last night, Dec ember 11, 1896, at 9:30 o'clock after an illness of fifteen days, caused by neuralgia, which was later complicated by kidney troubles. Mr. Wardin was born near Light street, Pa., March 27, 1829, and was therefore 67 years, 8 months and u days old. On March 6, 1856, he was married to Mary E. Brugler, who with his only child, Halford B. survive him. During the greater part of his life, which was spent in Pennsylvania, he was actively connected with va rious business enterprises, in all of which he was successful, but for the benefit of his son's health, and feeling that he could better himself by moving toa newer country, came west in 1877 with several friends with a view of selecting a place to which to move his home. The entire party was so pleased with Carthage and the surrounding country that all settled here in the spring of 1S78. He bought a large farm near the town on the north and after farming a few years built his residence on Central avenue in this city and has lived there happily ever since. His peculiar devotion, after his family, centered in the Methodist church, he being a constant and con sistent worker in that church, which he joined in early manhood. As a token of appreciation of his services to that organization, without solicita tion on his part, iu 1871 his church conferred license to him to preach the gospel; in 1876 he was ordained a deacon, and in 1889 he was ordained an elder in tlut church. His valua ble services to the church in this city were recognized by his appointment in 18S8 as assistant pastor which charge, as assistant, he faithfully filled for several years. Mr. Wardin was respected by Ihe whole community and was endeared in many ways to his friends ami com panions. His associates in church work here speak in especial commend ation of his labors in the religious field. He was always more than willing to work for the ufbuildiug of the church and the cause ol Christianity and was great help nd reliance to the vari ous pastors who have occupied the Methodist pdpit."
